Hope nobody was hurt or worse and all made it out safely :(
That's just horrible. Here's to hoping the rest of their year is much better.

Everyone made it out alive, including the dog. The only loss was the house and some pride for the kid who burned it down.

Always a good idea to buy home fire extinguishers for each floor (depending how big the house) and make them easily accessible.

Plot twist: security dude called in sick for Christmas. Manager torches house for all the years of disrespect. Reading his thread on tm3 was the last straw...

The house could've been saved if they would've rushed a bit more.. but the firefighters took their sweet time getting there and then they took their sweet time setting up.

Ditto on that plus inspect them annually paying attention to the expiry date.

Odd, maybe I'm still hung over but the linked article did not indicate the timing issue.
Glad that everyone was safe.

The article wouldn't.. But I witnessed it first hand. Even the kid who lived in the house was like "where the f is the fire department?!".. And what makes it worse is that the fire department is like 2 minutes away.

Safety is never rushed. Insurance will cover belongings, a dead firefighter does no one any good and destroys a family.
The fire hall that may be "2 minutes away" may be out at a different call because someone was drunk driving and hit another car, or someone was having a heart attack. Therefore a different truck had to be sent from a further hall.
With a fire that size, if they know that there is no one inside the house, there is almost no way they are going inside, it is much too risky. Even if they did, they wouldn't be very effecting as a aggressive interior attack with 1 nozzle because of the size of the fire. They would, and apparently did, need atleast 2 pumpers and an aerial for a defensive attack.
Please do not criticize something you know nothing about.
Edit: After reading the article it says they had 5/6 stations there. That's at least 4 pumpers, their 1 aerial, chief, service truck. This is a massive operation.

But what is the actual time from notification to arrival?
Not being cold but when you are at that emotional state, timing feels much longer....

It was at least 5 minutes from when I made the call plus whatever time elapsed when the home owner made the call. When I talked to the dispatcher, she seemed to think it was a small fire. I don't think she grasped the severity of it. The police stated today that the house is gone. Apparently there was an explosion before all the kids ran out of the house. Parents were gone for New Years. Talk about a shitty thing to return to.

My neighbours place went up this summer...scray stuff when there are flames coming out windows only 10 feet from your house. The fire department sent 5 trucks and had it out within a minute or two of arriving. It hadn't really spread that far when they arrived (mostly garage and just inside the door). The house was still a total write off, all contents and interior (drywall, insulation, etc) has been gutted.
The thought of losing everything is bloody scary. I definitely upped my fire safety (extra detectors, 5 fire extinguishers, etc) but it can happen so fast. Usually cooking, bad electrical, smoking or candles are the main starters.

This one burned for hours. The garage was in flames when they got there and then 15-20 minutes later, the whole house was up in flames. They didn't start spraying the garage for awhile.. For a house to burn this long is a bit odd to me.. 4 fire trucks and hours battling the flames.

It would shock you just how much heat and energy there is when a fire gets going. A few hoses barely make a dent. At the point it was at the house would be a loss anyway and so the fire departments main goal is to keep it from spreading to other properties and also just the safety of their firefighters.
My neighbours, the fire barely got into the house and yet the entire place was destroyed from the heat and smoke. Their back windows about 20-30 feet away from the flames were cracked (even the outside pane of the insulated glass) from the heat.
