Forgot to save file on word!!!

Hey everyone,

So I was fixing a paper yesterday on Microsoft word and I thought I saved it and so I closed the word program and shut off the laptop. I went on my laptop today to finish the essay but to my shock the file opened without the tweaks I did to it yesterday!

I spend 6 hours yesterday fixing this paper and was wondering how to recover it. I am not even 100% sure I did not save the document either. If that is the case is there any place to find the file? I do not believe I changed the name of the document so the only 1 document I have with the name is the original one. I have searched online for help and no idea or advice has helped me recover the work so far.

Edit: I would like to add that I opened this file directly from my hotmail account and I believe I just clicked save not safe as. I read online that is may save the file somewhere else. Does anyone have an idea as to where the file can be saved?

Check the temporary folder. It might be sitting there.

What you can try is... Open up the file from the Hotmail again, press save as, and it will probably show the current temporary folder. Try search that folder for precious file.

If it saved somewhere else where you don't know, you can try the search function and type in the name of the file. Assuming you know it or part of it.

Computers can do strange things. It is possible you saved it but didn't notice it defaulted to another folder.

Holy Crap I found it!!

Here is how:

1- I went back to my email and reopened the attachment.
2- When it opened in word I went on file which brought out the info screen.
3- from the info screen I clicked open file location
4. The updated copy was in this area which is called a temp folder.

This is strange because I searched through a temp folder before and was not able to find it then. I am now happy after spending 2 hours trying to find it lol.

Of course I saved along the way. The problem was that I did not realize it was saving at a different location then my documents.

Glad you found it. I think we've all had boneheaded moments where we don't save properly so I know it's a relief.
