Hey..

So i purchased my 2012 Mazda3 back on August 2012... now when i bought the car the sales person told me when i picked up my car that when i remote start my car that i would open the door, put the key in the ignition and turn it half way and i can drive. now ever since when I've used my remote starter many many times however what the sales guy told me was not what was happening. When I remote start my car and open my door, the car actually shuts off completely and i basically have to put my key in the ignition and start it. Now, I have spoken to Avante Mazda about this and how the sales guy told me completely something different. They told me that yes the sales person did not know what he was talking about and that they changed the remote start in 2012 because apparently anyone can break into the car and steal it... regardless a year later and I'm still a bit annoyed that my remote starter is like this. I'm wondering if anyone else has bought their 2012+ Mazda equipped with the same Remote starter like mine installed by the dealership??

Sales guy had no clue. The Mazda remote starter WILL shut the car off when the door is opened.

yeah clearly but like my other friend on TM3 got his 2011 3 and his car when you open the door, his car still stays on, you put the key in the ignition half way and then you can proceed with driving the car.. i told this to the dealership and thats when they told me in 2012 they changed the remote starter.

Probably can be reprogrammed

That seems really stupid to have to start your car twice, not to mention fairly harsh on the engine.

Well that's a new one. Usually you put the key and turn to the on position and you're gtg. Hmmmm.

Honestly. It doesn't sit well with me that that's how my remote starter is but I don't think there is anything I can do about it really.

+1. I have the oem mazda remote starter as well in my 2013 Mazda3 Skyactiv. It was a xmas gift from the future inlaws so i cant really complain. I am not too worried about the starter as i only use it on extremely cold days plus i have extended MAP warranty to cover any issues if the starter decides to crap out on me.

I have a 2010 Mazda3 GT sport with the Mazda Remote start, I can open the door without the car shutting off, I put the key in the ignition turn it on and go. It does lock the doors though if I start with the doors unlocked.

The new started changed as per the dealership in 2012. So your remote starter is different than mine.

As Noisy Crow pointed out it probably can be reprogrammed. It seems dumb to have the engine shut off when opening the door. I would imagine it is an optional security feature that is programmable.

Not quite the case... in previous yrs.. the car would continue to run until you hit the brake.

Not sure exactly when, but they changed it for safety.

I wish it were the old way as the car stayed running as you put your kid in, cleaned it off a little etc.

So thinking out loud, but does the car shut off right as you open the door? Or when you unlock the door?
If its when the door is opened, then I wonder if they're triggering off the door switch that makes the dome light come on?

Try something silly if you're bored, take a piece of tape and apply it over the switch to keep it depressed, so the dome light remains off even when the door Is opened, then close the door and try your remote start and see if it shuts off when you open your door.
If this works, the only thing you'd have to deal with is an unlit car as you enter, but would resolve the annoyance of having to restart the car once you get in.
Temp solution and when winter is done you can take the tape off and clean the residue left behind and car returns to normal.
This all assumes the car will remain running until you put the key into the ignition and turn to the ON position and press the brake pedal.

Atleast you have a remote starter, my MS3 is manual, so no such option from Mazda, and I'm not willing to go aftermarket cause I don't want to carry 2 key fobs in my pocket.

I think the problem is most of the new cars with push button start don't have a cycle key option. Its a 3 way directional loop. Off, "ACC, ON, START".
As with a key you can cycle randomly.

As for two key fobs, you'd have to carry two fobs regardless. Even with the new remote start systems you must have the remote with you.

The Mazda3 doesn't use a spring pin switch to operate the dome light, it is now a sensor incorporated in the door latch, so your suggestion is not possible.
