View Full Version : MAF sensor wires cut/broken, need replacement?

I am having an issue with my MAF sensor wires. I've had to troubleshoot it for awhile and narrowed it down to the wires connected to the MAF.

I've read that it would be best to solder on some new wires and so i attempted so. I found the break in the wires and found that 3 out of the 5 wires have a cut into them and so just decided to replace all wires and solder on new ones. I took out the connector that connected to the MAF and just snipped off teh wires so i can easily solder on new wires. When depinning the wires, i had pulled out one wire too prematurely before the black clip was unhinged and pulled out the copper connected to the plug. As a result, i botched the wire harness connecting to the MAF and would need a new one to solder it back onto the car.

Any ideas on solutions to this issue, or possibly a suggestion on where i can find a MAF sensor wire connector?

thanks

I snipped mine off at a junkyard when my car started misbehaving and I had to resolder everything.

I jammed a paper clip into the pin and taped the wire to it to get me to a mechanic shop, once.

They had a bunch of those pins there and took car of it all for me.

Cool thanks guys appreciate the assistance.

I was able to repair the harness connector and resoldered it back on ... having the right equipment made the biggest difference as I lost all hope until I realized why I couldn't get it soldered properly.

Thanks again.

found a replacement at a auto wreckage place and cut the part manually off another mazda 3.

soldered the bad boy on and its good as new. As this is my 2nd time soldering it on, i would suggest ensuring that you either 1) get the original maf wires from another mazda 3 salvage location or 2) ensure that your wire guages are well enough to hold the connection.

the first soldering joint i probably did not so good a job and thus the wires broke off and had MAF issues again. I went to look for legit OEM part of this maf wire harness and so far itsb een a month or 2 since i replaed it again and no problems since. also ensure that you have a longer length than the original so that any hard movement with the car does not impact the wires causing it to disconnect once again.

Thanks for your assistance guys.

It shouldn't be that much from the dealer. I just replaced my ground wire Friday as I had a cel and intermittent no power. One of the tsb's had the ground one as an issue.

It was 12$ at the dealer. No cel or issues yet. Also comes with good quality shrink wrap to cover the exposed wire

Gabby, can you described your intermittent no power?

Not sure exactly how to describe it but, its like the car had no balls under 3000RPM. almost like if i was always trying to take off in 3rd gear. makes noise but goes nowhere haha.

worst time was one morning leaving tim hortons. i pressed on the gas and the car went absolutely nowhere. i thought it was going to die.

also one thing i did notice afterwards is that it didnt seem to matter what gear i was in, rpm i was at or speed i was at. if i let go the gas, the car would jerk. its been doing that for a while, i thought one of my motor mounts was on its way out. but since i replaced that wire. its gone.

i guess in the end it makes sense. intermittent ground issue. so when the engine is under constant load, it doesn't move, so ground is good. but idling, taking off or slowing down, it moves just enough to lose connection and at that point the car doesn't know what to do.

TSB has the part number of the wire. i called one dealer (im in ottawa) and it was special order. i called my regular dealer (further away) and they had 10 in stock

TSB: 01-006/06

Ah ok not the issue I am having. I think I have a bad ECU ground

What issues are you having?

Basically my motor will 'die' out right occasionally (normally on the highway) gauges go flat, no throttle response, and then a second later everything returns to normal.

Just a note to anyone reading this because of similar problems. When replacing the MAF sensor wires, make sure you give plenty of slack. An extra inch to inch and a half should do. When you turn off your engine, you'll notice that the engine moves on it's mounts quite a bit. This is what caused the damage to the wires in the first place. Every time you do a hard shift or almost stall, the engine is doing the same thing. I had to replace my MAF plug and wires. The ground was cut at the plug and it was jerky, especially when accelerating. I hope this helps.

One more thing... of course, how short your MAF sensor wire is will depend on what CAI you have. Mine is a Fujitsu F5. It didn't help that the mounting bolt was missing when the ground was cut. Regardless, I had almost no slack.
