Ive looked everywhere for a similar problem but only seem to find anything beside the one im having. Its a 2010 Mazda3 hatch, when the car is in park, you can hear the humming and clicking of the trunk trying to open but it will not open. Once the car is in drive the noise is gone, assuming its a safety mechanism smart people at Mazda has design. When trying to open from the outside, its like playing the Lotto, sometimes when im lucky it will open LOL. Anyone else experience this issue? Thanks in advance!
Hmm interesting.
I had a similar issue on my '05 a few weeks ago. The hatch just wouldn't open from the outside. Seemed like the latch/lever mechanism just wasn't engaging and thus no matter how hard I held down and pulled, it wouldn't open. The lever on the outside would move, but the mechanism on the inside just wouldn't release the lock. The problem seemed to have "fixed" itself though, as it started working fine the next day.
Never got around to looking into the issue though.

+1 to FD. Any evidence of rust? I think thats how mine is going these days. Each year it progressively gets harder to open. Trying to lock and unlock is even harder.

No signs of any rust at all, again ive read alot about the older models, but since this one is a 2010 i cant find anything on it. O in addition i have brought to a shop before and they said they cant fix it LOL... seeing if it something i can fix myself before bringing it to Jimmy,

Similar thing happened to me. Talked to Booter22 and got it fixed under warranty.

Mine doesn't open with the inside latch by the gas door opener, but does with the key.

ya this is most definitely the most likely...check this and let us know
on a side note not to jack this thread, but I have a similar problem only opposite, it started some time during the winter, and I can only open the trunk with the latch by the drivers seat, the key won't turn, I am afraid I will break the key if I try too hard...I suspect salt or dirt inside the locking mechanism...does anyone know how I could go about solving this/cleaning it out?

Worth a try. If it is salt/dirt inside it would likely help. If not some sort of WD40 type lubricant.

I would suggest against wd40 on any locking mechanism.
In past experience wd40 goops up and collects dirt making the lock harder to turn and free up after a while.
I've never has those issues with jig-a-loo or even pb blaster.
Otherwise I agree with ami. Unless there is major damage to the lock air/lube will likely work.
