Took my 2005 Mazda3 to the dealership after I went over a huge pothole and the car started making loud banging noise in the rear wheels. hey replaced both rear shocks that were broken but found a ton of other stuff that they said needed to be replaced:
- front shocks leaking
- front control arms loose
- rear trailing arm work
- engine mount broken

How much should I expect to pay for all of this at a mechanic instead of the dealer? Or should I just get it all done at the dealer?

Well don't just take their word for it....geez. Go to another garage don't say anything about what you were told and ask them to inspect your suspension components!!!

Always get a second opinion, if you cannot see it yourself.

I think if you read through the Shops/Service Section of the Forum you might be able to find a trustworth local shop to give you a reasonable and honest estimate. Jimmy at Street Performance, Ivan at Igarage, or I have a mech in downtown TO I could recommend.

Agreed on both fronts. Based on the extent of what your mechanic has indicated needs to be fixed/ replaced... Take it to another place for a second opinion. Street Performance in Markham. There are various dealerships who are TM3 affiliates as well.

With that said, if these are all original parts and your ride is a 2005, I wouldn't be surprised if the work needed is correct.

Definitely agree with getting second opinion.

I was stupid and went to Active Green & Ross after I popped a tire over a pothole. I replaced the tire, and they told me my rim was slightly bent, that I needed to replace my outer tie rod end, rotate my bent rim to the back, re-balance and do a 4 wheel alignment. With a new tire I was looking at about $500 not including a new rim. Went to Joe at Select Auto who has done some work on my car before, and turns out the rim just had to be balanced properly (rim was not bent), tie rod end just needed to be tightened and had 4 wheel alignment done for a really good price. So I'd say definitely get second opinion!
