Made a stupid mistake today. For the past year I always fill my tank on sunday nights before work and I did it today again out of habit... always comes to around $40. Anyways, I start pumping at the pump stops around $3.... I find it odd and think the pump doesn't work... so I try another pump and it stops at around $7.... then it hits me... I had filled my tank earlier on the weekend and I just overfilled about $9-$10 worth of gas AFTER I was already full.
I drive 140km and my fuel gauge meter shows this.....

Did I seriously mess something up? I hate problems and now it's just bugging me non stop. Is an extra $10 worth of gas really 140km worth? Sigh...

As fak dude would say.....
You're fakked. Sell the car quickly so it doesn't break on you.

Judging by the humor.... I am okay? Seriously though... why won't the fuel gauge meter go down - or is it just so full it has yet to move? I don't understand where the extra gas would have gone. It did not come back out the fuel nozzle area. Just trying to learn..

The first and last bars have a larger capacity than the others so to speak.
I can get 90 on my first, but 45 on all the rest.
The last is larger because people are idiots.

Interesting.... normally by the time I hit the oakville/brampton area I have about 1-2 bars that have gone down..... roughly 2-3 bars to get from Niagara to Toronto.... but tonight not one bar went down so yea.... what kind of sensor is in the fuel tank? Perhaps it got flooded or overloaded somehow and might take a few days to go back to normal?

Well I don't know, it's why I'm asking for help. Never did that before and just wanted to be sure I didn't mess up my gauge.

i'd say it's fair enough.. i always over fill my tank and gets an average of about the same no.. but it might be because of skyactiv though..

overfilling the tank may result in damaging the charcoal canister which is part of the evaporative emissions equipment... malfunctioning evaporative emissions equipment will result in a "CEL"... warranty will not cover abuse or neglect...
best to avoid the damage is either quickly using the gas (drive like you stole it), or drain the tank down to correct full level

I like the first option.
