View Full Version : Creaking-ish sound after changing rear shock and mount

so I changed my rear shock today (don't worry the other one will be done within the week)
I also changed my shock mount, now i'm hearing a slight creaking noise coming from that area.
It seems to only happen when i'm coming to a complete stop. I can't reproduce the noise from outside of the car
e.g pushing down on the rear end. I'd almost say it sounds more like a brake issue, like a sticky ebrake cable,
but i tried loosing the adjustment bolt for that and it didn't seem to help.
Any ideas? Thanks

Check end links and sway bar bushings/brackets if your car has them, I have heard issues of clunking and creaking coming from loose or broken end links and sway bar brackets are rusted to the point they break.
Just a suggestion as I can not hear the sound myself or determine when it happens/what is causing it to happen. Try to specify when the sound happens, e.g. around corners, over bumps, while coming to a stop.

i did specify lol, it only happens when i come to a stop really..to be honest it's almost making the sound a bad balljoint would make, but a lot less and not when i'm turning

I have a kind of creak when I make left turns. I figured it was something in my trunk, but now I'm not so sure

I have the same issue as you and have had it since I bought the car. It's more than likely a rear bushing, end link, or ball joint. It's definitely not the struts or brakes because I've changed those and the noise is still there.. it doesn't really bother me so I've ignored it but I hope that narrows it down a bit?

I have the same sound from the rear of mine. The difference is I didn't touch my suspension i changed my brakes. I have a suspicion that it's got nothing to do with either and it's more to do with a bushing. it creaks when the breaks are applied bc applying the breaks tightens everything up and when you stop it lets everything relax. Just my theory.

Old(ish) thread but wondering if you ever had this diagnosed and fixed? I'm getting the same sounds over bumps and on occassion when turning my steering wheel. I had both control arms replaced within the last year so I'm fairly sure it's not anything related to the control arm but the noise seems to vary from creaking at times to sometimes almost a loose sounding rattle???
Any ideas from anyone? I know my shocks and struts are done (originals from 2008 with 205,000 km on them) and I've got that replacement slated fro the next couple weeks along with new rotors and pads. While I've got everyone's attention, does everyone agree it makes sense to also have the springs/ coils replaced at the same time as the shocks and struts? I was thinking it made sense to and zero sense not to.....
Thanks All

Hey yeah! Sorry I didn't update it. It was a broken part of my stock spring that was rattling around

Thanks.
I'm hoping changing my struts, shocks and coils solve the noises but I"m somewhat worried it may be a CV joint....my car is turning into a money pit lately.
