Hey guys, running 2008 3 GT.
I want to upgrade the front speakers. Is it worth it to do components? What happens if I put in coaxials.. do my current tweeters up in the pillars become useless??
I am just running a pioneer aftermarket stereo and don't plan on upgrading with an amp.
Are components much hard to install? I'm thinking I would pay someone which is going to cost me at least 150 bucks for an install.

A lot of people run coaxials for the ease of installation and I'm sure they sound great. I usually prefer components as I like having the tweeters up top. Since you have tweeters already you just need to pop them out and glue the new ones in place. There's a bit of wiring to do as you probably want to use the crossovers that come with the components as well, but that's easy.
If you run coaxials, just unplug the OEM tweeters so things don't sound too bright.

Truth betold I run Clarion Coaxial's on all 4 doors and a set of Kenwood tweeters and sounds great! But I have thought about a set of components too. Better sound. I have a bit of distortion with both and I took out the crossover and sounded a lot better. I would also install them myself. Are you going to do the rears as well? Its not to difficult. 2 screws then from the bottom pop the clips, unscrew the speaker (which afterwards kick those cardboard pos's as far away from your car lol) and wire up new connectors. Not difficult figuring out the whole car audio wiring setup! Save yourself the 150 and take a couple hours to do it yourself.

I use to run coaxials only because for the most part it was the cheaper alternative.
Then when I went with my first set of components, I never looked back. Sound quality was more crisp.

Components are great. You won't really need an amp since you have an aftermarket hu. I have Pioneer components in the front. Didn't install it myself though.

What about the rear doors? What if you're not too keen on drilling a 1" hole for an extra set of tweeters? Wouldn't coaxial or a convertible component/coaxial be the way to go?

Oh for sure. Coaxials or even mid-bass fill.

I swear by components, I installed my first pair 10 years ago, and the tweeters and crossovers are still rockin.
You should run an amp with them, as most components love to have power pushed at them.

I was using Coax for the longest time. Did my first set of components which are amplified. Never will i go back to a set of Coax speakers. There's just so much to gain by getting a set of components, and when powered properly, they sound 10x better!
