Just used a torque wrench for the first time and torqued my lug nuts to 80ft/lbs.

And HOLY CRAP have I ever been over tightening in the past, I'd say maybe twice to 2.5 times too tight. I almost feel like they are too loose, haha.

General rule of thumb is re check torque after 100km, correct?

Yes... After 50-200 km re torque them .. Do no loosen them just re torque

Its always a good plan to double check but ive never had a loose nut.

Usually is fine if you're just swapping wheels...if you've changed brake rotors, studs, hubs, etc that's what you really need to double check them. I always make a habit after I take the vehicle out the first time after the wheels are off to retorque anyway.

Yes, most people way way way over torque everything, not just wheels.

Also, maximum torque is 87ft-lbs
