Hi guys,

So I took my car to Budd's Mazda for an oil change yesterday and for them to diagnose what is happening to my radio when I go over rough pavement and bumps in the road.

The problem:
- Over bumps and rough pavement my AM radio cracks and is intermittent
- FM radio is unaffected by the problem

Has anyone else experienced this problem? I have read on some forums including here that some people have had the problem but no solution is ever posted.

The dealership said they would have to take everything apart to try and find the problem and the services manager was telling me that my grounding from my meth pump could have something to do with it. I highly doubt that is the problem as I checked my connections and grounds with a multimeter to ensure they are complete circuits. Booter22 where are you... the new services manager doesn't know what he is talking about.

I can post up a video later if there is a demand for what the sound actually is. It basically sounds like a record skipping (for you old schoolers) or cd skipping. I will probably take out my head unit to ensure all the connections at the back are good. I already checked my antenna to see if it was secure and it is.

If anyone else has this problem when going over bumps with the AM radio let me know.

Sounds like a loose connection to me.

.

still here buddy, i dont rly listen to AM but do you notice it on all stations. all the time. some of the time or only a specific one and in a specific area. also i would maybe check the antenna and see if it is tight and i dont want to tell the dealer to check under it for a secure connection as thats a shit job to remove the headliner, but it may need to be done. but see if its more one station then all and see if it is that station in a specific area. could just be poor reception of the station or interference of other signals and such.

and yes thats sort of why i left.. that service manager is a real winner ;)

Two things to check:

In your car, bang the dashboard in different places, while parked, and see if the radio cuts out.
Check for loose ground wires.

This is a speed 3. There is no dash banging to be had here. How dare you!

Gently caress the dash with your fist.

Wouldn't it be easier to just remove the radio and make sure the antenna is plugged in snugly?

No! Bang! Bang bang!

BANG

But really, the fm antenna has nothing to do with am radio.

It's weird... I still want to figure out what it is.

If I take apart the dash, look at the head unit and all the wires look fine where do I go from there?

I have a feeling the only way to find out is to test another head unit.
