205 50 R17 all season Goodyear Eagle
Fubared? Fixable? Dangerous to drive?
I know nothing about tires, so any help much appreciated. Thx.
Damn, I wish I could upload an image. Not even from dropbox.
Here goes, a crack one centimetre from the tread of the tire about half the circumference. thx

from dropbox get the img code and paste it into your reply.
As for the tire, it sounds fixable, depends on how close to the sidewall.

half of the circumference of the tire sounds like a very long crack.
How long have you had the tires for? How many kms on it? How much tread left on the tires?
Would be safer to get two new tires.

Oh wow, yeah that tire is toast.
How old are they??
How is this even a question?
It is fixable with a new tire
I know everyone isn't a tire expert but some things should just be common sense. Cracks on anything are not good.
Keep in mind your tires should be the only part of your car that makes contact with the road so they're pretty important.
If they fail then likely other parts of your car will make contact with the road and that never ends well

Still good. Put some super glue.
And get some super traction to boot!
In all seriousness I've seen some rides in parking lots with horrible tires.. Buldges, cracks, warped rims.. Etc. I always check for car seats and 90% of the time cringe. You'd almost think patches were done with super glue... Just ride good rubber .. Why cheap out on it and put cash into aesthetics

There is still a large population of people that think if it ain't actually broken, I don't need to spend money on it. They believe preventative maintenance is hand in hand with getting ripped off. I know people like this, I had to remind them more than a handful of times to replace their all seasons before they swapped off their winters this spring as 3/4 tires had cracks in them.
That crack in the picture looks pretty bad. Better it that replaced asap.
