View Full Version : AC issues. Again.
Last summer I replace compressor with a junkyard one. Had relatively low km and was from an '08. I also replaced expansion valve and the dryer. AC worked awesome all summer. Ice cold. Now with warm weather arriving having issues once again. The compressor doesn't want to stay running while idling in town. It's very sparratic. However driving on highway it seems to perform relatively well. I'm thinking it may be related to the clutch possibly the stator/thermal protector.
I still have my old compressor too which I believe died of same issue. I started taking the clutch apart on old compressor to just see what it's composed of.
My main question is does anyone sell the stator/thermal protector?
I don't think I need a whole new clutch or a new compressor.
I have not checked my system pressure just yet. I will try to do so this week

Check your coolant?

Short cycling compressor usually is an indication of low refrigerant level.
I'm going to check the pressure in system hopefully this weekend. I have a gauge for low pressure side at least.
Thing is. The system seems to work fine. Until I'm back to idle. On highway it's not an issue. And although I only have stock temp gauge. I don't see any real fluctuations in engine temp. I changed water pump and put all new oem coolant in last summer with some water wetter. Coolant level is all good.

Is the radiator fan turning on when the AC is running. Since it's a variable speed version, it should be going through low and high speed cycles (the high speed cycle could be heard) at idle with AC on.

It can also indeed be the thermal protector in the electromagnet. I've seen quite a few of those do the exact same thing. The only way to be sure of refrigerant levels is to measure the pressures. Which takes refrigerant out and you need a machine to add more.
So it appears as tho the culprit is my radiator/condenser fan. Not come on at ALL.
I went through today and tried to see what's going on.
There's 2 main power wires and 2 small leads. One separate and on within main harness with power wires. Assume one of those is the trigger wire to start the fan. I assumed it's the one within the main harness. I'm not getting any voltage from that wire. I also decided to just touch 12v directly to that wire. Still doesn't kick on.
Anyone?
Of course I checked the fuse. It's fine
