Mandarin will open its doors at 12PM and finish seating people at 8:30PM. Seating is at a first-come, first-served basis, so make sure you set time aside to line-up!

Free is nice. Buffet is nice. Free buffet is amazing.
But I will say this....it's gonna be HELLA PACKED. Not sure if it would even be worth trying to go.

I have never been there but the one near my place looked like a zoo when I drove by it last year

The lineup is gonna be insane. I'd rather just pay the $30 and eat another day when it isn't that busy haha.

Wait a minute, Mandarin's buffet now costs $30!?!?
Holy **** I went to one of these years ago when I was still in high school. Man, the lineup was looooooong! Friends got there around 10ish to lineup. Didn't get in till 2pm LMAO. I went to the one at Birchmount/Eglinton and some people fought and some people fainted. 2 cops were at the door.
Haven't done it again after that LOL

That's like when Harvey's used to do free hamburger day (not sure if they still do it) stupid line ups of people down the street. I guess its a fun novelty and something to talk about but I would not wait in line 2+ hours for a free Chinese buffet. Nice that they offer it though.

This is definitely a discussion for another thread, but I don't understand the concept of tipping at buffets. Especially places like Mandarin - they don't even check up on you/ask if there's anything they can get. Why are these people entitled to a tip, especially when you serve yourself your food?

This. I tip if I see a job well done or a person go above an beyond. It's not ever just a given that they get something extra for free.

They will add another 10% service charge whenever you have 5 or 6 person on your bill.

They have to pick up your empty and dirty plates. lol
also if you order drinks, then they have to serve you.

Have you ever been to a Mandarin where they're actually polite? Tipping is for GOOD service. They are paid by their establishment for service in general.

Gosh I really want to go to Mandarin on this day but I'm scared to see what the line up would be like. I imagine people will probably sleep over at the Manadrin locations haha

My buddy went to this last year and he was in line for just under 5 hours.
You could be an untipped bartender and it would be cheaper to work and go another day than to go for free food.

My wife and I and a few friends went to this one year. I was opposed from the start but my wife is always one for a deal. Long story short, 3 hours in the sun and a (then pregnant) wife throwing up behind a tree later, we didn't get any free food.

LOL wtf the Mandarin on woodbine in Markham had great service. I believe they renovated. The manager walked around and asked if everyone was enjoying their meals. The server or busser also kept recommending some items to try and asked how everything was.
I think there's an hour or two hour limit so they can accommodate people waiting outside. It's also free fountain drinks fyi. Unless its changed. The quality of the food is unchanged regardless if its free. But I will point out that my recent visit to the Mandarin on Woodbine Ave did taste a lot better than the other locations I've been to.

Wait in line for an hour to pack like sardines into Mandarin and eat bad Chinese food? WHERE DO I SIGN UP?

Hate lining up longer than 20 minutes for food. I don't waiting at festival vendors like taste of Danforth or Ribfest. But 2-3 hours is way too long.
Pass.

Lol you go and line up on canads day.. get in the following day. Not free anymore :p
I have not been to Mandarin in probably 10 years
I used to enjoy it, but I think that's because I didn't know any better back in the day
I would definitely not line up for it for hours, free or not. In fact, I don't think I would go now, even if there was no line, and even if it was stil free

That said we don't go often at all.
Food is ok. I just go for crab legs and such.
Free buffet! Hells yeah!
