View Full Version : Road Test + Tinted Windows?

I currently have a G2 license and need to do my G2 Exit Road Test to get my G.

I'm thinking about getting my car tinted (either ~23% back, 35% front or ~23% all around) and was wondering if anyone has had any experience with doing their road test with a car that had tinted windows. I'm concerned that they may not deem the vehicle "safe" if I have them tinted, or they may be extra anal/picky when it comes to evaluating me.

The earliest I can do the test is Feb 2015 because I renewed my license in Feb 2014. Should I wait out the tinting until after my G?

As long as you can see out the windows you will be fine. You could always roll down your windows for the test.

Unless you have a female instructor with long hair. Years back I specifically remember my g or g2 instructor asking me to roll the windows up as the wind cause her hair to blow in her face.

And my friend did his test in a Dodge ram with 15% tint. No problems, but something is telling me if their too dark they may have a problem...

Can you borrow a friends/parents car?

EDIT: just realized you said your car isn't tinted. Unless you can borrow a car for your test, it would be best to wait. You've got less than a year so I think tinting should wait just to be on the safe side.

Oh and a future good luck to you when you take your test.

Thanks!

I guess I'll suck it up and save the tint for next year.

I'm actually also taking my G test in August, and have got an aftermarket exhaust, and red taillights.

Exhaust isn't obnoxiously loud. When you're in 3rd gear and beyond, there is a sweet spot where you can't even hear it.

Am more worried about the tail lights. I didn't do them too dark, but they do cover up the white reverse lights.

Tails are clearer after the clear coat. This pic was taken pre-clear coat.

Should these cause any problems?

I don't know to be honest. I would think your reverse lights would need to be white. Better ask the mto?

Whoa can it actually be that much of a problem? I'm going for my G test in either late August or Early September(don't want to waste a summer weekend day) and I've already tinted 20% all around

I borrowed my dad's car for this reason. Didn't want to show up and get denied. See if you can borrow a family member/friends ride for the test and fill it up when you return it as a thank you.

I also thought about this, but the ideal thing would obviously be to drive your own car. Dad has a bigger car, so might be worth it to get used to it a couple weeks before the test.

The way I see it, its best just to take the safe route and leave it alone for now.

Spend your money on a nice deck or rims if you're impatiently waiting to customize your car haha.

Or be even smarter and leave it in the bank! (I was never good at this)

I had 17% tints when I did my G test. It shouldn't be a big deal unless the examiner feels like being an ass that day.
