Hello

So I have a 2005 Mazda 3 hatch. I replaced the brakes (pads and rotors) front and back. I noticed since the warmer weather and i have the windows open that theres a ticking sound coming from the right side of the car while driving NOT BRAKING. Cant really tell if its from the front wheel area or the rear wheel area. Anyways its a ticking sound that speeds up/slows down based on the speed of the vehicle. Its more noticeable when theres someone driving beside me. It sounds like something is rubbing against the brakes. I used all oem mazda parts and I lubed the caliper pins with brake caliper pin lube. Not sure what it could be. Anyone have any ideas what it could be?

Backing plate/dust shield most likely.

Try tightening you lug nuts, it was rubbing on the clip in my situation.

Thanks for all the suggestions I was thinking either dust shields or retainer clips as well. I'll try and check it out this weekend.

could be as simple as a piece of tape stuck to the tire... don't ask me how I know

Could just be a rock stuck on the tire treads

1. Jack each wheel up
2. Spin wheel
3. Find source of noise

How do you tighten a brake pad?

How do you tighten a brake pad?
Just need to run to canadian tire and buy (or borrow) a brake pad tightener unit. It is usually kept near the headlight fluid injector valves.

I presume canadianbacon doesn't do his own brake work... or else he typo'd and meant mis-installed.

He could have meant that the brake pads weren't seated correctly or were rattling. In which case they may be missing the shims.
