Do dealers take back vehicles if the new owner is unable to drive them because of medical reasons?

My mom got a new Nissan Micra on Wednesday. On Friday morning she lost consciousness at her chiropractor appointment. Turns out that her heart stopped for a few seconds, or rather "skipped" several consecutive beats. The family doctor says she isn't allowed to drive now until the tests are complete, which will take at least 3 weeks. However, it's possible the tests will come back and she still won't be able to drive anymore.

My parents paid cash for the car, so there's no financing stuff involved. I'm not sure what to do... Will the dealer take it back? I mean, it makes more sense to buy the car again in 3 or 4 weeks if she's cleared to drive, rather than be stuck with a spare vehicle.

I doubt they will take the car back

No harm in asking and see what they say though

Hope she gets better

This is could be a special circumstance, try talking to a manager or owner of the dealership. Though I'm not sure if they'll return every penny that you paid the car for. But you might get everything minus freight, plates, the "processing" fees.

Well I talked to my dad and he thinks it might discourage/upset her too much. So they're gonna keep it and hope she is allowed to drive.

Thanks guys.

I believe by law you have 10 days

Buyers remorse or something like that.

It would probably cost you more to give it back (minus fee's and restocking type fee) and then by it a month later than it would to put fire and theft ($7/month give or take) and park it until she drives.
Return it = would lose tax, fee's restocking fee, etc = could be anywhere from a couple hundred to a couple thousand.
Keep it on fire and theft = If she doesn't drive for the next year it would still be under $100.

Hope she gets better

Ah good idea on the reduced insurance.

Apparently it sounds more serious than it is. She shouldn't be dying anytime soon, but it certainly has an effect on what she's allowed to do.

The good news is its a Micra so it's fairly cheap so it won't be a massive blow. I think some companies have a 30 day.1000 k/m policy or something like that. Unsure with Nissan but you can call their customer service hotline and ask. I would agree with those above though and if it turns out she cannot drive for a bit just get the fire and theft in the mean time and hopefully she is better and can drive. All the best.

My parents decided they'll keep it. If it turns out my mom can't drive, then the car will go to my sister in Vancouver.
