New to the forum so please bare with me. I just ordered a 2105 Mazda 3 GT and will need to pick up some winter tires and rims. Would like to go down to a 16 inch rim. Just wondering what is the most common rim option people go with? I would like to stick with hub centric rims.

Any 16in rim, with a 5x114 bolt pattern and a 67.1mm hub bore should fit fine for you

+1 to what greyseason has posted.

The tire you will be looking for should be 205/60R16. Deals start to appear in late September from both the Dealership and Tires shops and sponsors here on the forum.

Are you planning on going with Steelies or Aluminum?

If non Steelies, I suggest you look for a set on Kijiji and then have them powder coated. They withstand the harsh salt much better and will be less prone to slow leaks from the salt pitting the Aluminum around the bead area of the tire in a few years.

When having the wheels installed for the winter season, always remember to have anti-seize put on the center hub to avoid having the wheel corrode and stick onto the hub making them difficult to remove in the spring for change over.

Also ensure that the lugs are tightened with a torque wrench to ensure uniform pressure and prevent disc warpage. This also helps if you need to change the tire down the road as you should be able to use the factory tools to loosen the lugs and not the need for an air gun at a shop.

Thanks. I was planning on getting some aluminum rims. If I read correctly, I need to find an rim with an offset of 52mm but so far I can only find 40mm and 42mm offset in a 16 inch rim.

Are you looking for a particular aftermarket wheel? Most Mazda OEM wheels from all models from 2006+ should fit and work.

Have you tried the TireRack.com calculator? Although the offset may not be 52mm, other's might work.

By using the wheel selector, Tire Rack has listed what will and will not work for the most point.

Sounds like my best bet is like you said, find a set of rims off of a Mazda and then I'd get them powder coated.

At stock height, +42 will work.

I bought some cheap 16" alloys off kijiji from a mazda P5 for use in winter...from what i've read, it should fit the 2014+ GT no problems..just be mindful of 16" steelies...i think someone said not all of them clear the GT's brakes

FYI, Simply tires annual winter tire group buy should be coming up in the next couple weeks, I would definitely wait to see their prices for comparison before you purchase anything.

Why do you want to go to 16 inch -- when it is normally 19 inch

Cost would be the main reason. 16" winter tires and steelies will likely be $250-$300 less than 18".

+1 on Mazda OEM alloys. Many different wheels will fit. I have 17" Mazda 6 wheels as my winters after I bent 2 of my previous steelies.

Another one is, if you slide into the curb, you may get away with just hitting the tire. If the hit is minor, you'd get away with no damage.
I'm currently running the 16'' hubcentric steelies. Check out the vendors on the forum. They typically have good deals.
