Hey guys,

I've been noticing a strange noise whenever I shut off the engine in my car. It needs to be warmed up first, or else it doesn't make this noise. I have included a video, you can hear the noise around the 0:07 mark. I would best describe it as a clanking noise, as if something was shifting. I honestly thought it might be an engine mount but I checked those and they looked fine. Rev'd the engine up and it hardly moved.

Anyone have any ideas? Could it be a tranny mount - this noise doesn't happen when I put it in gear so I'm thinking its something else. I can't even pinpoint if its coming from the front or rear.

Cheers

weird, i know my car kinda makes that noise but its just the exhaust, not a clank. but youre also in a garage? could be making the noise louder than it actually is?

Mine makes a weird noise too when I turn it off but not a clank more of the exhaust settling. Maybe a loose hanger??

I purposely closed the garage to amplify the sound. Its easily audible outside too.

I don't think its the exhaust, I forgot to mention I checked that too.

If you were to take 2 pieces of metal and drop one on the other it would sound exactly like that.

Car is completely stock btw. Thanks for the suggestions tho.

Any others are certainly welcomed and appreciated!

1. Exhaust components: You can't rule it out unless someone is underneath the car to monitor the noise, either with their ear or a stethoscope.
2. Hydraulic lines: Loose lines can slap the subframe or chassis when the engine shudders.
3. Engine mount: Revving the engine does nothing. You need to brake torque it in gear or use a massive pry bar to shift the entire engine assembly.
4. Foreign object: Missing a wrench or ratchet, by chance?

Thanks for these ideas. I"ll try to drag someone out with me to help me pinpoint the noise.

Car drives absolutely fine, love the thing. Just want to make sure its not something simple that'll lead to something big.

Cheers
