The two would still operate as standalone companies, but Burger King would now be a "Canadian" Corporation and pay Canadian Corporate taxes (26.5% versus US 40%). Also, they'd probably get to leverage off of Tim Horton's breakfast expertise as well.
Goodbye, Wendy's, and hello to Burger King?

Have you not been to a Tim Hortons in the morning? From a breakfast foods perspective, aside from McDonald's, they're untouchable.

I'd rather have a Sausage and Egger at A&W for breakfast, I honestly didn't think Burger King was big enough to buy out another company.

.... Yes sir, let me get your egg out of this little drawer where I keep it warm until someone wants it.
Frozen egg patties microwaved on-site to reheat them...
None of their food is fresh. It's the lowest low a fast-food place could do.

Fresh or not, low or not, it still doesn't stop them from generating ~$3.3 billion in revenue each year. You can disagree on the quality of their food, but you can't deny that they've got a stranglehold on the Canadian breakfast market.

You're telling me you have no preference over a freshly cracked egg, identical to what you buy at the grocery store, versus a powdered egg mix with cheese and onions mixed (not to mention other chemicals/preservatives/flavor enhancers) in that is frozen in patties and cooked via microwave?
It's got nothing to do with how well they sell, it's the fact that it's hardly real food.

Not happening, spoke with a contact in the IT department who gets notified of any possible upcoming changes to the company structure to prepare their service desk and they said not happening.
TH will stay Canadian owned.

When exactly did I say I preferred frozen foods over fresh?
All I said was that Tim Horton's has expertise in the Canadian breakfast market which is what Burger King would be looking to capitalize on. I think you're confusing my use of the word "expertise" with "quality food," where in fact the entire time I was talking their ability to penetrate the market.
I agree with you that I prefer fresh foods, but from a strictly business perspective, again, Tim Horton's has a stranglehold on the Canadian breakfast market. It has *everything* to do with how well they sell, and when it comes to Tim Horton's, few can match them and their ability to sell.

Hopefully it works out. Not sure how popular Bk is in the states, but that's likely to be a lot of tax money being paid to us Canadians.

Several opinions here:
Major hypocrisy from the Americans against this merger/acquisition saying that there will be job and tax losses. ummm right, American companies have been pulling this stunt in other counties so deal with it.
3-G Capital, owner of Burger King, may force Tim Horton into adapting their "lean operation philosophy (http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-08-25/3g-capital-may-make-fat-disappear-at-doughnut-chain-tim-hortons.html)" . They make Rob Ford look like a gravy train engineer, from a fiscal point of view.

Also Tim Hortons was owned by the owners of Wendy's, so it wasn't Canadian at the time of your message

Cute, but incorrect. Wendy sold it's stake in 2009:
"However, the relationship would not last. Wendy's sold its stake in Tim Hortons, and in 2009 the donut chain was repatriated as a Canadian public company."

If BK is smart (unlikely) they won't try to change the brand TOO much.

Timmy even considered a "Canadian Owned" company right now? It's a publicly traded company (TSX and NYSE), and googling tells me there's "no majority shareholder".
If anything... BK will become a registered company in Canada, so I'm guessing they'll be listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange too, making it more Canadian then ever.
Just after the coffee giant known for its light brew launches a dark-roast product, Tim Hortons and Burger King announce they’re in discussions of a merger. There are over 136 million Tim Hortons shares on North American markets and its valued at over $8.3 billion dollars. Fidelity Management and Research company owns almost 5.5 per cent, but there’s no majority shareholder in Tim Hortons, according to its corporate filings. Many mutual funds and investment groups own a couple million shares.

Can I get a whopper with my coffee? I don't like Burger King at all. So I'm hoping all it is, is a cash grab for them and they don't try to mess with it.

Tim hortons and burger king will still be the same as they are now.
Both brands will continue to be managed independently.
No one is going to mess with anything.
not a cash grab, it's just how corporations do things.

There is speculation that the after the buyout that they will try to save some money. Such as consolidating marketing, IT, logistics, etc. Share holders will want and ask for this for sure. It just doesn't make sense to have two trucks making delivery in the same plaza in some cases. But it shouldn't effect their product offering and how the restaurants are run.

Wonder if some of the Wendys / Tim's locations will soon be BK / Tim's.
Too bad they can't be like the merged KFC/Taco Bell stores. I like getting Big Crunch Combo with Supreme fries.
Wouldn't mind trying a Breakfast Sandwich combo with Onion Rings...

you're correct in that
I realized I forgot to say that to the end customer, things will still be the same on the front end.
On the back end, there will definitely be sweeping changes for sure.

Pretty sure then, that BK is going to widen the presence of Tim Horton's into the US - and not just the bordering / tourist cities.
Funny thing is - I recently went to Syracuse and the Tim Horton's "Bistro - Bakery - Cafe" (as they called it) was more expensive than the coffee here. $2.15 USD for a Large coffee - and the cup sizes are the same.

With 3-G Capital calling the shots, the management side will be cut down to a skeleton crew.

With the current cat-piss coffee formulation, that would be a mistake. TH coffee circa 1980s was good sh*t that tasted like actual coffee.

that works too but imagine an oversized timbit that still retains the shape of the timbit.
