hey guys, i may be just tired but i tried using the search function and can't seem to find the thread on here for the full front oem bbk swap.

Wanted to know the part numbers for the whole swap. As far as I know you need the L/R front calipers, some kind of brackets off the mspeed3 (?) and of course rotors and pads.

I got some mspeed pads already, just need rotors and calipers but I am finding that you need caliper brackets too.

The only thread I could come up on was this one: http://www.mazda3forums.com/showthread.php?t=337226

However the pictures are all gone and no part numbers.

I've got goodridge stainless steel brake lines already installed on my mz3. My front brakes are shot so time for the upgrade. I've driven long miles for the last few years on the highway and the front brakes get used up fast, so instead of wasting more money on oem mz3 brakes, I want the upgrade finally done.

Oh and if it matters, I have a 2006 GT 2.3 (well I was the first to swap to a 2.5 in Canada :D)

cant find part number but heres the specs to everything. you can probably call the dealer parts dept and see what part number it is.

edit: actually hang on, ill get you the part numbers

front left caliper: B3YF-33-71X
front right caliper: B3YF-33-61X
front rotors: B37F-33-25XA

you might want to double check with local dealers because i know sometimes these part numbers get jumbled up between region to region

So there is no need for the caliper bracket like that site mentioned?

you will need the caliper bracket because its spaced further out to allow for the new larger rotor. another note, you will also need the mounting bolts because they are a finer thread than the ones on the 2.3.

Are there part numbers for the caliper brackets and mounting bolts?

the brake caliper bracket is B3YF3328X (same for both sides). not sure if the come with them or separately. its easier to just buy the whole caliper assembly instead of piecing a kit together

heres mine i did this morning.

you'll also want to upgrade the rears to the larger brakes from the 5... why not? lol
better balanced brakes = WIN

I'll leave the 5 rears for now, I changed the rear rotors recently. I read into it and the rear calipers are the same, just the bracket and rotor is necessary.. and apparently mz3 and mspeed3 calipers have a larger bore than the 5 calipers.

not "apparently"... whoever said that was wrong... according to the shop manuals, both the 3 and 5 have the same 38mm rear pistons
the parts catalogue also confirms this based on the rebuild kit parts... however, it also shows the caliper assembly part numbers are different... I don't know what's different, but if they're really the same except for some other minor difference, that could be why

The rear callipers hangers for all model years of the Mazda 5 are the same. The difference is the size of the rotor for the rears, the caliper is the same, even the pads are the same part number (depending on spring or lock type of pad)

like I said... the caliper part number and the bracket part numbers are different between the 3 and 5... obviously the bracket is different due to the rotor size differences, but I can't explain why the caliper part numbers are different despite all claims stating they're the same caliper

they are interchangeable but not an absolute identical. its just one of those "it came on a different car, so we'll give it a different number" scenarios. hell, even the part numbers between the ford focus and mazda 3 are different even though they are the absolute identical parts (fomoco).

in the end, i guess its more of a liability issue where if they gave you a "wrong" compatible part, they could be held responsible if something happens.

wrong
based on your logic, the Mazda3 brake pads being the same as the Mazda5 ones should have different part numbers right? Wrong... they are the same part number because it's the same part... it's not a question of liability at all... mazda like any business wants to reduce business costs, and if they have to inventory a completely different part number even though it's the same part, then it doesn't make sense on the accounting... they do however assign different part numbers because the part really is different, whether it's a minor cosmetic difference or a big functional difference... one good example are the Mazdaspeed Protege brake calipers... it has its own unique part number but they are 100% identical to the calipers used in the European Protege5... the difference? the MSP calipers were painted silver while the Euro P5 were just standard gray anti-rust coating

I'm not disagreeing with anyone that the 5 rear calipers are no different than the 3's, but the part number differences tells me that there is a difference somewhere, no matter how minor

furthermore, Ford's part numbering system is completely different from Mazda's... they're also fully separate companies, it's obvious why the part numbers are different for the same parts... that argument does not hold any weight at all

+1 most of the time you wont notice it until you actually start pressing down on it harder

I found when i went to the CS BB callipers that i didn't gain more stopping 'power' per se, but the modulation was more precise.

I can confirm this. A while back I completed front MS3 oem bbk and rear MZ5 bracket swap to fit larger rotors. I found out from jimmy that the mazda5 pads could be reused with the MS3/2.5/2.3 rear caliper.
