that's my next door neighbors 918...He hasnt had it for very long and I've seen him out ripping in it a few times over the past couple of weeks.
Last summer he had an accident that resulted in the loss of his Carrera GT so this was presumably the replacement. Not a big deal though, he's got a Rolls Royce Phantom and a Ferrari 458 California, amongst other goodies. I won't name names, but he's a prominent investor and now appears on a very popular TV show. I'll try and get more details about how the fire started and post them up.
As a side note, this is the 2nd electric car that I've personally known to spontaneously catch fire. A friends moms Tesla S burst into flames while charging and burned their entire house down, just earlier this summer.

He should invest in the Bridgestone Racing Acadamy
12 day course is $13 grand, but sounds like this guy could afford that no problem and would save him from wasting vehicles

That's not close to the gas station, that is IN the gas station
Based on this video, nothing can cause the rest of the gas station to explode
I will start talking on my cell phone while pumping gas

He was ripping it around driving pretty hard and pushing the engine all sorts. When he went to fill up at the gas station he filled up to much and some of the gas had overflown out of the tank down the side of the card and onto the ground, ended up mixing with the fumes and heat of the exhaust/engine causing it to catch fire.

Owner spilled fuel on body... Tried to squegee it off... Some of it went near the top mounted exhaust and combusted

I'm still facepalming that he squeeegeed it near the exhaust area... It would have been safer for him to just let the fuel drip

He panicked and did what he thought was right
gasoline does a hell of a number on your paint job
Probably wasn't even thinking of the fire hazzard to be honest

I wonder how his insurance company will interpret that tidbit of information.

Nothing to interpret.
Insurance covers your negligent actions, which is exactly what this was (if the fuel spill/squeegie story is correct). Full payout.

If he has a form of new car replacement, would his insurer get him a new one?
Who writes 918s?

That's nuts. Out of curiosity though how did you find that tidbit of info out? Not questioning credibility, was just wondering :).

He is an investor in the company I work for and very good friends with the ceo and co-founders. He comes in here a lot to check up on things and shoot the shit. He was telling us the other day when he stopped by.

Hagerty would look at it, Chubb & AIG would as well. Facility would always be an option.

Lol they already said his name on the news, superspy.

What does that have to do with anything I said. Of course they are going to say his name on the news.. He asked how I knew and i replied with that he is a major investor at the company i work for and very good friends with the ceo and founders, hence him dropping in every now and then to chit chat and check on the company, aka stopping by the other day and telling us the story.. Not sure what you are trying to get at, you may want to re-read the conversation or just not say anything about it if you're trying to be smart

if there are only 2 cars in canada and now one has a claim, does it mean the premiums for the other owner will now increase?

No.
It will/may have an effect on everyone who is insured with whatever company he is with though.

thanks man!
was just curious as the stats for accident/claims/theft etc of a certain car can play a part in determining insurance premiums (i'm sure among a huge list of other variables)
