Beware guys, located on Pharmacy between Steeles and McNicoll, Both bounds as of this morning. :(
Dash cam clip. It is a lot of force than what I seems in the clip. You can see my transponder dismounted from the tape and feel. My rear view mirror moved.

Hope you didn't break anything.
I hit one maybe two weeks ago on York Mills between Young and Bayview. No warning beside poorly painted orange markings on the raised lip.

The steering is totally off now. I won't know until I bring it in the shop.

There were similar things all over Richmond Hill a couple weeks ago before they got filled in. Not sure what the purpose is but most of them were signed and the one that I found that wasn't signed wasn't as deep as the one you hit.
You can definitely go back to the city with the video as evidence that there weren't signs. Although, from what I've heard, getting anything from the city takes time.

Well, it's good you have that dash cam recording it will help if you decide to contact the city for compensation but it will take time

I didn't see any signs, so it is possible to get the city to reimburse you.
*possible != easy

My claim with the city took six months. Calling every week.
I got paid though.

Ouch! That part of the road was misleading......I would've mistaken it for freshly laid ashpalt as temporary patch-up. Damn.

Ouch. I know the feeling. I hit a patch of grooved payment that was dug up to fix a storm drain with no signs around it.
Going from the road down to the grooved part wasnt the issue, it was getting right back on instantly where that 1-2 inch lip is that meets the good part of the road.
Instant shake in the steering as I was going 80 kmh. Wasnt too pleased.

Bill the city.
send them notice in writing that you hit the pot hole and it damaged your car..
archive your footage from the dash cam..
if the hole is not fixed in 30 days your have a valid claim to get your car paid for by the city..
thats how it works here in my city. 30 days after they get the notice in writing if it is NOT fixed you have valid claim.
otherwise its up to the city if they want to pay for it or not!!!!

This is not a pot hole. this is a ditch that was created from construction (likely from the laying of new piping), not by the environment. it's the cities job to ensure that the contract company performing the work on the road appropriately sign the road and use some sort of warning system or metal ditch covers. The 30 days for pothole is so that the city works department has a reasonable amount of time to respond to reported potholes/road damage. this is not the same thing. OP should be able to win this argument. Might take a while and they will make it as frustrating as possible, but OP should win in the end.

Yeah in my case it was the contractor that cut me a cheque

Yup, I have decided to travel along Victoria Park instead now. It's nicely paved a few years back south of finch.

Brutal. I remember the northbound right lane on Kennedy Rd. is a god damn minefield too.

Wynford drive is torn up for resurfacing right now. For some reason they laid down concrete pads for all the bus stops, and for a couple of days there were huge ridges between the pads (which were at normal road height) and the ground down road surface, with no markings. At least I knew about them, and now they've put down some asphalt at the edges to soften the transition.

on a similar topic I was driving in the fastlane on the 400 SB just after the hwy 88 exit ... when i hit a fairly large ( atleast for a fast moving freeway) pothole. theres nightly construction on that stretch but that doesnt mean workers can leave a pothole like that without any warning whatsoever ( im assuming its a result of what theyve been working on).
No damage done but should it still be reported?

Quick update on this:
The case has changed adjustors once, and they have deemed the contractor liable for the damages.
Finally, got the contractor's attention after a couple of months of waiting for response.
