This is related to my other thread about the pricing for my 24k service, but I believe this deserves to be mentioned here as well.
So, I called Erin Mills Mazda to set up an appointment for my 24k service. I asked them how much would that cost, they told me $250 + tax. I agreed and I scheduled my appointment. After the conversation, I realized that $250 + tax sounds a bit over priced for 24k service, which only includes oil change, tire rotation and bunch of "inspection", "cleaning" and "lubrication".
Next day, I contact Mazda of Toronto and ask them for their price for the exact same service. They reply back with $234.99 + tax. OK, a bit cheaper, and it sounds more reasonable. Now the fun part begins.
I call back Erin Mills Mazda and I ask them if they can match MoT's price of $234.99 which I was just offered. The girl refuses saying that MoT don't do as detailed work as Erin Mills Mazda (wat?). She says MoT dont' check your fluids, belts and they don't lubricate and clean your breaks either (are you serious?). I tell her that's nonsense and that all Mazda dealerships have to go by the book, they cannot pick and choose what to do for regularly scheduled service. She kept saying that at Erin Mills Mazda they do "more work" than other places (wtf?).
I ask her again if they are willing to match MoT's price which is only $15 cheaper anyways. She refused.
So, not only did I cancel my scheduled appointment with them, but I will never contact Erin Mills Mazda for any of my future services.
Great customer service Erin Mills :rolleyes :chuckle

all this over $15?
it's crazy. she kept saying how at erin mills mazda they do "more" work than other places.
the fact that she wasn't willing to lower the price by $15 to keep me as (most likely) returning customer is not very smart for the business.

Dealerships are not WalMart they are under no obligation to price match. I questions is how much more time does it take you to get to MoT, and how much more do you spend in gas ?

i live close to erin mills, i work close to mot, so no issues there.
of course they are not obligated to price match. i said it's not very smart for the business, because they lost me as a returning customer. that's one thing. the other thing when she kept saying that at erin mills they do "more work" and that MoT don't check for fluids, belts and they don't clean your breaks tells me that it's all BS.

I was more referring to you, going through all this over $15. Not the dealership

of course.
i have my principles, i'm not going to let someone convince me that i should pay $15 more because they do "more work" than other places.

I would agree with the OP. I could care less about the $15 but to have a dealership claim to do more work than another would upset me too. 24k service is 24k service. If you will also check my tires for wear or something which is not part of the service, tell me that. Don't say "more work".
Its totally about the principle... one bad experience with a dealer will shy you away from ever returning. Of course I don't expect them to price match although its worth a try.
OP just don't use them if you don't want. Go where you're comfortable.

It sounds like the justification for the $15 difference was a bit off as they shouldn't disparage another dealership.
Though I do see that the tire rotation is priced separately so maybe the Erin Mills price includes the tire rotation while the MoT one doesn't? Perhaps they have a rewards program that makes up for the difference?
In the end of course they don't need to price match. They can just say that's their price for the listed service and it's up to the customer.

Perhaps they didn't mention that tire rotation is priced seperately? This could be the difference In price.
It is usually only done depending on tread wear and is not included in the 24k service.
