yesterday i cleaned the tb it had a lot of carbon build up . i put everything back together took it for a spin . while i was driving i notice the revs would hang around 1500 rpm for a split second when coming to a light with the clutch all of the way in .took the car home then reset the ecu by disconnecting the battery for 5min, hooking it back up took it for another test drive and an italian tune up , everything seemed fine car runs great . driving to work this morning i got a solid cel . has anyone had any similar problems ? is this something that will go away with some more driving?

I'm guessing a Stretched MAF wire when removing the intake tubing.

2010 2.0L 5 spd gx/gs corksport cai . i disconnected the maf b4 cleaning and my code reader said the maf was working along with the o2 sensors after i reassembled everything . i even checked all of the connections and clamps on my cai and looked for imperfections in hoses, tubes, and wires in that general area,it all looks good .i have had my cai on the car for almost a year and never had a cel b4.

Simple fix. Clear engine codes. Pull off your negative battery cable, wait 30 seconds re connect and it should be okay. Your ecu adjusted to compensate for your gummed up throttle body. Now that its clean it needs to be reset to factory. Hope this helps!

Had that code on my Lancer IIRC it was O2 sensor or air flow sensor

ok so i was still getting some surging when i would down shift and when i was cruising at a constant speed ie 60km but no more codes. so this morning i decided to take the intake off , maf , and the whole throttle body and clean everything. the throttle body was so dirty i dont know how the car ran. it looked clean when it was attached to the car but once i pulled it off i could see the back side, i didnt do a great job on the first attempt to clean it. i feel that the only way to properly clean it is to remove completely. i used two cans of tb cleaner a tooth brush and tooth pick and a whole lot of elbow grease. b4 my cs cai i ran a k&n panel filter (oily one) i believe this was the main cause of my problems . the oil from the filter had got all up in the maf and tb coating it with a mixture of oil , dirt, varnish and carbon . the heat from the engine must have baked it on to everything so just spraying the cleaner and wiping it away did nothing. i reinstalled everything, disconnected the battery for couple min then connected it again . b4 i started the car i did the throttle reset (turn key to on position for 60 sec then turn key to acc for 60sec then turned car on and let idle for 5 min). took it for a test drive and gave'r everything seems to be great , power seems like its back and im not experiencing any surging or jerking . i will keep an eye on things and post if anymore cel's come back.

make sure the engine is cold when removing the tb . i thought mine was cool enough till i pulled the hoses off and got a face full of coolant.

Thanks for the update. I'm pulling off my TB tonight and going to see if this makes a difference. gonna pick up a new filter on the way home as well. I fear this is the same issue i'm having with my 2011. Oil'd filters are the worst it seems.

Is the gasket re-usable? I had thought they weren't.

i was planning on replacing but agincourt said it would take afew days to order in , i thought that was bs , my gasket looked like it was still in good shape no cracks or imperfections and it wasnt dried out . i didnt get any codes from driving last night or this morning so im hope everything is A1

Right on dude. If i could buy you a 12 pack right now, i would. It seems all my issues are gone thanks to seeing this thread and your suggestion of cleaning the TB.

the code p0171 came back on sunday . car ran great with no codes during the week , parked the car friday night with no codes . started the car on sunday and notice right away car was running rough and threw a code by the time i hit the end of my street . when i was driving the car i didnt notice any performance issues except some hesitation when down shifting into 2nd gear and only sometimes downshifting into 3rd gear . when i got to work this morning i pulled the maf to see if it was dirty or damaged . everything looked fine so i put it back and took the car for a spin . car seems to be ok now , the hesitation i notice b4 is now gone and the idle seems smoother . i think this may just be a temp fix . is there any way of checking the maf wiring to see if its damaged other than a visual inspection? there is plenty of slack in the wire and the connector look to be in good shape.

changed the maf to a new one last friday , car ran great for a few days then cel came back monday morning . was planning on taking it in to mazda to have them try and diagnose the issue but the cel shut off last night as the snow storm weather rolled into durham. im starting to think i have a vacuum leak somewhere and the sudden change in weather is the reason why the cel shut off. or im thinking that maybe i messed up the egr valve when i tried to clean the tb still attached to the car or i screwed up an o2 sensor spraying all the tb cleaner in the engine. im starting to run out of ideas of what i can try to fix the problem . i recently brought my car into agincourt mazda to have the brakes done . i was having hesitation and some jerky acceleration/deceleration but no cel , one of their techs test drove the car said everything was fine. its funny the car ran like shit with no cel , now after cleaning maf/tb the car runs great but i get a cel and not so great fuel economy.

last week i thought i found a hole/leak in the silicone part of my cai. it didnt look like a hole but i decided to to wrap the area in several layers of electrical tape to see what would happen . on my way home from work the same day the cel shut off by itself. i thought that this could be weather related cause it happened the day we got all that snow i figured drastic change in temp was the cause. now the weather is back to how it was i figured the cel would come back too , but that isnt the case . the cel has been off now for several days now and ive driven about 600 km in that time with no cels. ive been keeping an eye on my fuel economy and that seems to have really improved aswell. gonna look into getting replacement part from corksport and see if that really is the cause of my p0171 . thanks to all who offered help.

today i took the car into ajax mazda and explained my problem with the p0171 cel . they ran a diagnostic and found that my pcm module software was out of date so they updated it and said everything else on the car looked good . i took the car for a rip everything seems good but im gonna put a couple hundred km on the car to see if the cel is really gone for good b4 i get too excited .
