Re all,

Had an old change at the dealer today and their little report page in the coolant section was written -37C. Is this within "spec" or should it be lower, ie -47C? It was ticked off with the green bubble meaning "good".

Just shy of 100,000km and about 4.75 years old with FL22. I know FL22 is good for 10 years and almost 190k, but wondering if the rating should be improved.

Thoughts?

They do that? Put the temperature i have 2010 also did 48km 96,000 service. They changed my antifreeze on service

On the vehicle report there is an area for coolant/hoses with an area to write in a temp. It was filled in with -37C I checked older ones and the temp wasn't there. Guessing this was because winter time and dealer doing value add and/or looking for things.

@ Canadianbacon Your 2010 should have FL22 - why was it changed so early - dealer??

I believe my 2012's manual calls to replace the coolant at 96,000 kms or 48 months, and then every 24 months after that.

So I'm not sure whether or not I have FL22 in my car.. Likely not.

But I think you'll be fine with -37... It doesn't get that cold here unless it's a freak incident or something.

staax I was under the impression that all 2010+ were FL22. Check the coolant reservoir or cap and look for the FL22 logo.

As for the rating, what should the nominal/factory spec temperature be? I thought it should be closer to the -40 or -50 range. anyone?

anything after mid 2007 should have FL22

So was should the nominal coolant temperature rating be according to factory specs for Canada?

fresh FL22 has 55:45 mix ratio, which gives a 132 degree boiling point and -44 degree freezing point, when using a 15 psi radiator cap... boil point will be significantly higher with higher pressure caps, like the 21psi cap used in the genwon and genpus
the additive package deteriorates over time, but the only way to adversely affect the freezing/boiling point in relatively new coolant is to add water to it

but really, your coolant was tested at -37... are you planning on going far up north where it could get that cold? If you're not, then I don't see the point of worrying about this... when was the last time it was -40 in Toronto?
remember, wind chill is NOT actual temperature, what you "feel" has no bearing on the actual temperature... the car doesn't care or "feel" wind chill

I believe FL22 is used from mid 2000's and up. While service bulletins say FL22 will be clearly labeled with a sticker it's NOT true. I have a 2012 and sticker nowhere to be found and have been assured it's FL22. When I asked why the manual would list two types for my car yet it is using the FL22 and not specify they technician said that Japanese like to give too much information.

This is the same stuff and Ford buys from Mazda and comes concentrate or premixed

Lumberjack it's not a sticker. Look closely on the top right side of the coolant reservoir. The FL22 will be moulded into the plastic. It's pretty small around the size of a dime so it's easy to not see.

My 2010 has FL22 embossed on the plastic tank. I have also seen this same marking on 2010 2.5L cars as well.

Thanks - I'll check as I everything I have read says a "sticker" and they will even supply them with the case of coolant to dealers. I'll check tomorrow.
