Hey Guys,
One of my rear shock mounts broke yesterday. I was able to drive it home around 30kms, so hopefully I didn't create more damage.

I've been doing some reading on the forums and since I need to replace the rear shock mount, do you think it's a good idea to replace to the rear shocks? And do you think I should replace the other rear shock mount as well, as a preventative measure? Or should I just get the broken rear shock mount replaced only?

I'm at around 115k kms on the 10 year car. They are OEM and rear shocks have never been replaced. I'm probably going to go with KYB as a replacement if it's a good idea to swap it all out.

KYB is a good choice and since you have things apart to replace the mount, might as well do the shocks as well. KYB makes the mount as well as I changed both out on my 5.

It is advised to do in pairs especially when dealing with shocks. I'd do both the mount and shock on the side that is still good. (If one side is broke, chances are the other side has fatigue too). Generally good to replace things in two if they come as a pair (ie. Wipers, headlights...)

Wouldn't hurt afterwards to get an alignment done afterwards as well. :.02

IIRC we had a thread about this, and you cannot buy the shock mount separately. If that is the case it's advisable to upgrade both at once. CLosing in on that time for a replacement anyways. Perhaps an upgrade is in order.

Cannot buy the mount separately? I've replaced a few for fellow 3 owners.

You can definitely buy the shock mount separately. The Monroe one available at Part Source is about $42/side if I recall correctly, and is a common choice.

It looks like an easy fix, I got the two bolts on top off easy, but the one at the bottom is too tight. Not enough clearance to put my breaking bar on it with my jack.

Any suggestions, should I pick up a impact gun, will that loosen it?

I'd just let street performance do it, but I think he is booked for the next week or so.

don't have extension bars for the socket?

shock mounts are not available separately from the dealer, but you can get them from other places

Impact should be able to handle it no problem, just spray with lube 5 minutes before.
Do not use an impact when installing the top nuts. Those top bolts will snap in a heartbeat. If you must use an impact to remove, ensure the gun is completely straight.

I have an extension bar, but my jack lift is too low, when I try to put force on bolt, the bar hits the ground. ah well. I think i'll just source an impact wrench instead.

Fixed it this morning. Went to Can Tire to buy the part (Monroe 906981MM, 122-3928-6) for $50. Part source sells it for cheaper but I can walk to Can Tire. Also picked up an impact wrench and impact sockets that were on boxing day sale. Impact wrench took off the bottom bolt off so easy. Very easy fix for anyone that has this issue. I didn't torque the bottom nut back on, I just impact wrenched it back on and tighten the top two bolts snug, hope it doesn't come loose.

I'll probably swap out the other shock mount in the spring. My shocks seems ok, no leaks but once it does, I know I have the tools to swap it. Saved on labour, gained some tools, it's all good!
