Just wondering if anyone has had issues with aftermarket HIDs in their 2nd gens. I bought a set of HIDs off a friend who sells them and I've had 2 go out already only on the passenger side. Both times it was the ballast.
I understand the whole get what you pay for thing but he's been selling the same brand for a while and no issues in any other cars ( 2 civics, Sierra, Ram). I'm getting a third one now but I'm hoping it isn't an issue with the vehicles harness. Stock lights work just fine.
Just bad luck, issue with 2nd gens, or issue with my car alone.
Thx

I've sold many kits to members with 2nd gens. I definitely don't think it's the car. Haven't had very many warranty replacements.
We have a skyactive 2nd Gen with the headlight stalk left on 'auto' and have never had a problem.

My 2nd gen has been fine. For reference my 07 sedan seemed to burn out aftermarket LEDs a lot faster than anyone else's car.

I've been running a set I bought from garage16 for my 2012 GX for well over a year now and have had no issues. If your buddies are still giving you trouble then I suggest checking out what garage16 has

Thanks all,
Must be another bad ballast. The first ballast I installed and made sure to use dielectric grease on all the contact points and wrapped everything in electrical tape.
The second one I also used dielectric grease but used heatshrink over all the connections for added protection from water. Probably going to regret that decision now trying to once again remove the dead ballast.
Will confirm its not the bulb first though, and I'm really hoping its not a short or something in my stock harness thats causing my issue.

I can just try to hook you up with a set of GT headlights instead? Haven't had a problem with mine yet, just switched the bulbs cause they were lacking a little in the light output.

I tried two. This set I've gone without and they've lasted longer than the others. *shrug

Thanks Ryan I appreciate the offer.
I'm going to try yet another ballast as it is warrantied and then decide where to go from there.
I'm thinkin this time I'll take the driver side ballast which I've used for 2 months with no issues and put that one on the passenger side to see if it actually might be something with my car... Or has anyone heard of a bad bulb shortening the life of an HID? Probably not.. but just something to ask as I'm not familiar with HIDs... first car that Ive run HIDs.

A bad HID bulb will not kill the ballast, the bulb will either not ignite or just show wonky colours.
In contrast, a bad ballast can kill your HID bulbs because the ballast is the main unit that controls the bulb via the ignitor.
The ignitor will control the amount of current the bulb receives and constantly regulates it to keep the HID bulb functioning.
It's something like 20,000 volts to ignite the bulbs and then 85 volts to keep the bulb going.

sp3GT installed my HIDs and they're still mint a year later :)
