View Full Version : Auto sensors not working for my lights and wipers!?

So as the title suggests... my auto sensing wipers do not work. The wipers themselves are functional, but I have no (Variable-speed intermittent) control over the speed of them on the handle... it's either speed 1 full on/speed 2 full on /off.

(This was a huge pain last night in the bad snow/sleet/rain mix, as my wipers were doing a lot of that annoying squeaking noise from going faster than they needed to (my only other option was even faster or completely off).)

I am having the same problem with my auto headlights... the lights work completely fine under manual control, but the auto function is nowhere to be seen.

There is nothing covering the sensors that should cause them not to see the rain/daylight. And even if there was... why is my Variable-speed intermittent control gone for the wipers?!

Is there a fuse for theses sensors that I'm missing or something? I checked over the fuse boxes and searched the manual, but couldn't fine much help there... Hoping someone here has some experience or knowledge on this part of the cars electrical system.

TIA.

EDIT (added car info)

Car info:
- 2012 (Gen 2) Skyactive Sport
- Kenwood 9990HD connected to car illumination wire
- Viper 5904 alarm installed by Lockdown Security
- A while back... Mazda Of Toronto 'tried' changing my illumination setting to turn on 'somewhat earlier' as per the owners manuals personalization options, but the techs seem to have no training in this area, as they asked me what to set it to :s.
- The car was working fine after the above Mazda visit, but I'm not ruling out that as a cause... just trying to diagnose and fix on my own if possible, as I don't want to take it in, and have them deem it to be my fault, and my financial responsibility to fix.

I can't think of anything else that could have had any impact on the illumination sensors/settings.

From your description I would think that it is indeed a light sensor issue... Not sure what Gen you have, but from Gen2 manual: "The light sensor also works as a rain sensor for the auto-wiper control". Not sure of the best way to confirm if it is indeed dead/has wiring issues, but may be you can check one more thing: whether your instrument panel lights up automatically when dark or not.

Edited first post to include car info... The interior illumination does not have any automation. It is as if the sensors have been disconnected from the system all together somehow.

Had sensor replaced at dealership. Seems to be good now.

Is the car still under warranty? If not I'd be interested in the cost?

Glad you got it fixed, and good on you to update your thread.

Yes, car is still under warranty. I'm not sure what it would cost to replace otherwise.
