Did you shift to automatic when it was at 5000RPM?

standard? U mean manual mode?.. If you rev it until 5000 rpm I dont think it would harm the engine enough..
But just to make sure check ur fluids or if ur not mechanically inclined tow it to the nearest garage and let them check it.

I doubt you harmed it just by switching from auto to "manual", unless you panicked and did something else as well, so the two issues are unrelated, but you should get the AT light checked out.

Sorry. Yes manual. And yes i shift it back to automatic at 5000 rpms. And my car was on manual then i shifted back to automatic.

I go past 5000 RPM daily. (Seriously.) It shouldn't have hurt anything. That said, the AT light is an indication that something is wrong and you should get it checked out.

But lately my 4th gear been giving me trouble. If i dont make a complete stop the the rpms goes up with slow mph. Its good on flat long roads but not in town.

I often switch from auto to manual mode and back just to see what gear I'm in... Because I find these cars downshift at the slightest press of the pedal.
I don't think that would've done anything because all you're doing is upshifting by switching it back to auto.
How many kms? When was the last time (if ever) you serviced the tranny?

First thing is to scan the car for what code caused the light to come on. Then start diagnosing from there.
A more common problem is the turbine speed sensor. IIRC it mesures the internal speed of the transmission and will lock it in gear when there is a problem.
