A few weeks ago I had a CEL and the car had unstable idle and stuttered at red lights/stop signs. I had a local mechanic replace the VVT oil control valve and crankshaft position sensor. Car drives fine now but CEL is still present. He adjusted the timing of something but the CEL light returned. He told me to go to Mazda as a special tool is needed.

What timing needs to be adjusted? Crankshaft? Camshaft? Both?

And is it still safe to drive for now as my appointment with the dealer isn't until next week. Car appears to drive normal.

When I picked the car up there was no CEL until later in the day. I told the mechanic, he cleared the CEL but it came back on later that day. Days later, he attempted the "adjustment", again no CEL on upon pickup but CEL back on later that day again.

Id just take car to jimmy at street performance and never have a problem again.

The dealership scanned the CEL P0012 and P2088. They adjusted the cam timing but the CEL came back later that day. I called and have to bring the car back. I already paid for 1.5 hours labor. Are they allowed to charge me again if its the same CEL codes?

Take the car too 7605 Woodbine Ave, Markham, ON L3R 5V3 Unit #16 you will see a TorontoMazda3ca decal on door. You wont need to go back twice. Just 1 visit Dealership will charge you another fee and fail to fix your problem again.

I'm over 4 hours away from Markham according to Google maps (426 km). :(

Is there someplace as good as Jimmy near the Ottawa area?

Ottawa dang :( idk guess dealer might sadly be only option no idea unless someone here knows a shop in ottawa
