Theres this rattling from the rear of my 2010 3. I posted about it before but thought I would give it another shot to see what you guys think it could be... It's driving me insane. I brought it to my mechanic several times and he can't find anything wrong. Everything is new on it. He checked everything. But it still rattles over the slightest bumps. It sounds like something is loose. Could it be something in between the metal sheet and the liner? I'm about to bring it to the dealership to get it checked but I dont want them charging me up the a** to tell me they couldn't find anything... :bang

Can you hear/tell what area the rattle is coming from? Is it every bump that it happens, or only certain times?

It's every single bump. It comes from the passenger side rear area. I don't know how to explain it. It sounds like something is shaking somewhere in there. It's nothing mechanical, since my mechanic did not find anything

hey brother , when i first bought my mazda it had a clunking sound in the same area , it turned out it was just the heat shield that was loose. Good luck hope its an easy and cheap fix.

I just had this, kind of. But it turns out I destroyed my rear shock somehow. Haha

Are you positive it's the rear? From the driver's seat, it's very hard to tell - get someone to sit in the back and verify while driving. I had a passenger side strut bearing go bad, which makes a creaking sound, but until Jimmy figured it out, I could've sworn it was a rattle coming from the passenger rear

Are you around Oakville area anywhere? I've dealt with some rattles that are nothing mechanical, but little plastics around the rear end, if you are around the area, I could look at them for you today. Mazdafan14

Reddie1337 Sadly I am up north in Sudbury. I would've went to see you if I was closer. Seems like the rattling is getting worse. Its over every slight bump. I won't have much of a choice but to stop by the dealership and pay them up the a** to take a look at it. I let my friend drive my car while I sat in the back and its definitely from the rear passenger side.. :S

I would take a look at your shock mounts at the top. Also, sway bar link on the control arm or even just the plastic shields that are in the rear wheel well. Fixed a rattle on a friends car just by tightening the shields up.

I recently went through some investigating on my car to fix a rattle. Turned out to be a missing spring one one of the brake pads. Had a rattle over virtually every bump i hit.

Go find a speedbump and have someone crouch next to it while you go over it to hear the rattle. Then go over the bump again with the brakes pressed down enough to tighten the pads against the rotor, but not hault the car to a stop before fully going over the bump... If the rattle goes away, it's likely the same thing... If not, well at least you ruled something out.
