View Full Version : Found my passenger mirror all scratched...

Found my passenger mirror like this a couple days ago. I've done a lot of driving recently and have had the car in and out of a few garages having some work done. not going to bother accusing anyone of scratching it and chalk it up to bad luck. Trying to decide if this is something I can easily DIY fix, or if I should just bring it to a shop and have done professionally (which is the direction I am heavily leaning towards). Any recommendations of ways of fixing it or shops to take it to are appreciated.

if you want to go the cheap route, maybe you can have the mirror cover wrapped in something cool like glossy carbon fiber lol

Hahah I actually plan on wrapping the car, but right now just want to get this fixed for cosmetic/rust issues.

mirror cover is actually plastic. So it won't rust

****.

Edit: So is this a matter of ordering a mirror cover from mazda then, or is having it restored by a shop the likely cheaper option?

^buahaha i love that

in any case. the plastic the mirror cover is made of is black. so the marks being white, it MIGHT actually be above the surface of the paint. they dont primer the mirror covers when painting like they do with the body, since the plastic is already prepped for paint when manufactured. so try to rub it off with some buffing compound first. its your cheapest first step, wrapping your second. body shop quotes and part department prices vary. but heres what ive found.

(look for parts labeled under #5)

remember thats just a basic guide to give you an idea what the price is (without labour). so prices may vary from region to region, call your dealer for an exact price.

ooltra I'm sad for you and this situation...:(

Time to do like crxgsr and wire up some folding mirrors. I just don't get why that isn't a standard feature...:bang

because it adds money to the base cost of the vehicle, which makes it harder to compete with other similar vehicles in the price range.

If you are worried about your mirrors, it doesn't take long to pull them in by hand

They should add the option in with the Luxury package...or at least as a stand alone add-on.

But at the same time, if Mazda made every vehicle with electric folding mirror then they would only need one mold, instead of two. they would not need the extra schematics, drawings, etc.... so the cost would be that much more... (i would think)

I mean "wouldn't"...

need to add the "edit" button to this message board.

At best optional from the factory at a premium, but the more you include, the more you charge

anyway this has gone off topic, especially since your mirrors can be scratched even when folded, possibly more so.

Gave Mazda of Toronto a call and sure enough the cover replacement would be around $35. I had a brain fart and forgot it was a plastic cover and likely not a very expensive replacement part. Thanks for all the responses!

I have faith with the Gen 3's! Not enough faith to not have me car krowned every year and to fix all paint damage asap, but i still have some faith lol.

it's already "one mould"
the JDM housings are the same, they just add the motors and extra wires in there... some other countries have this too

Does this look like the same mould to you?

it clearly isn't.

TheMAN

yes, it clearly isn't because the internal carrier (the hinge or motor part is attached) is actually different... the outer housing parts (the parts you can see) are pretty much the same... you can't buy them separately, but if they were separated, you'll see they're the same... I'm pretty sure that is the case

It could be worse, I came back to my car once to find there was no longer a mirror at all. Hope it all worked out.
