Not sure how many of you may or may not have seen this but I recently wrote way too much on replica wheels. Which is here: http://www.stanceiseverything.com/2015/04/dont-believe-the-hype-the-wheel-debate-isnt-black-and-white/

I generally don't post SIE non event coverage links here but I've seen people 'stressing' over what wheels to get recently. The most important thing to take away is this

Make your own choices, do your research, look used (which has always been my method of choice), consider new upstart brands, and ultimately make your wheel choices based on what best serves you, not the judgemental keyboard warrior miles away.

If the wheels make YOU happy and are not some random kijiji fly by night counterfeit you probably won't die whichever choice you make.

Here's racecar on Rotas for race car sake.

If only we could get people to stop complaining when they see "fake" wheels, we might get the kids to stop crying they dont have the money lol.

Win-Win!

Seriously though, I know how much went into this article, and you nailed it!

And then you have that one guy with stock wheels who still insists on making fun of other peoples aftermarket wheels

I glanced over the article a couple days ago, but I intend on reading it in full soon.

My wheels are real I see them every time I look at my car. But I only paid 500 bucks

I probably wouldnt buy real again unless its a wheel I'm set on and I know It's not going on my car for a year just to be sold after - like every other wheels I've owned. Selling real wheels just sucks too unless you're willing to sit on them for a long time or take a significant hit on the price. My blue mb battles moved sold in a month I think? Work meisters were on their 7th month before they sold and I think I lost $500 on the sale for never used wheels.

In general, from buying and selling wheels I've learned I hate buying and selling wheels.

It took me about 7 months to move my Equips.

I will probably keep buying real if I keep up my streak of buying wheels every 5 years or so...

I almost went single piece this time... almost.

finally got a chance to sit down and read through the entire article. Nice job. And to be honest i have been against "fake" wheels my entire (since i was 16) life. But you are completely right. It all comes down to perspective. I drive normal(ish) on the street, but enjoy effing off to some back country roads to hoon every so often, plus track days and such. So my needs are much different from those who use their cars for the daily commute, coffee meets, and car shows. It all comes down to what you use your car for in the end. Broken down into categories for example....

A. Street use only= Driving to and from work, taking the kids to school, Car meets etc. Rep wheels are perfectly fine
B. Street + light hoonage= if you drive your car hard(ish) on the street, back country roads etc.plus all of "A" a well known set of reps or a cheap set of legit wheels is great.
C. Street+track= A nice set of "real" wheels that look great, perform great, nice and light, and can take whatever you throw at them, but are costly.
D. Street+ Car shows= For the most balling of the ballers= Real wheels that look great, fit flush, and can give you the mad street cred you deserve...but will also cost yah.
E. IDGAF = real wheels that look like crap, but are light and in good sizing. for track days only, purpose built, but give little street cred.....unless you hang with hipsters

agreed 100%.
plus weight of the car, size and width of the rim matters. james' car weighs nothing with it stripped out and he doesnt have to run super wide.

The NV auto cars are not as light as James (at least I don't think so).

The Wolf nailed it though

What changed your mind? :chuckle

I'm thinking of switching from authentic to reps such as rotas. The former is just too much of a headache unless you hard park or dgaf about damaging them.

lol I was trying to be sarcastic, rep vs real doesn't mean a whole lot to me to be honest.

I hard park and I also DGAF about damaging them when it comes to my fitment. My lips on the brand new meisters are already getting all scratched up from when I air out, but it is so worth it

If I could have bought off the shelf wheels for my car when it came outta the bodyshop, I might very well had! Sadly, I was stuck buying custom... which meant I completely loved them, no matter how much my bank account cried itself to sleep

I've personally bent both authentic and replica wheels, from oem to notable Japan and German made.

I have however never had a wheel explode.

Personally I like to buy used higher quality wheels (they often look better) but people are so condescending about wheels these days it makes me sick.
