Hi,
I have a 2005 Mazda 3. Last year while driving in early May, the air conditioning began blowing hot air. The next drive, it fixed itself. Fast forward to a few days ago, and the air conditioning started blowing the hot air again. Happened again today (went from warm to hot). Definitely set it to cool air conditioning. What's going on with it? How much would it cost to fix?

Sounds like it needs to be recharged. Not sure of the cost.
Definitely sounds like it needs to be recharged. You're looking at around $80-120 to give you a rough ballpark. All depends where you go to get it done.

Thanks for the replies! How can you tell if it's recharge needed or a leak?

If it is a leak, the recharge will go empty quicker than if doesn't leak.

mine does this when im at idle - it blows warm air, but when im on the go - it blows out cold, and yes its on the mode where it circulate the air inside. do you find this too? or just in general blows out hot air all the time? any thoughts for anyone?

based on a quick google search, mine looks like a compressor issue, anyone know how must it cost to repair? - sorry don't mean to hijack your thread lol

Not sure an exact $ amount, but I'm pretty sure compressors can get expensive to repair/replace. Not sure if you could just go to a wreckers and get one...

You certainly could. But always a chance that it'll have it's own issues as well. And you can't really check before taking it either. So its a bit of a risk. But doable.

I was thinking that too...I guess you take the gamble if you grab one from a wreckers. Cause I know to fully replace them its expensive. Not sure what it is to repair...

Though this probably isn't what's causing it. For everyone else reading this that has AC problems. The first thing you should check is your AC fuse. Sometimes the fuse just burnt out and it's a few dollars to replace it (or free if you already have fuses). No sense to start recharging, replacing parts, etc... at the mechanic before checking it isn't just a burnt fuse.

I know a shop charge $50 for recharge in Markham.
