Hi ,

I own a 2008 Mazda 3 which had 195/65r15 tires untill the last summer . Because I needed new tires this summer , I got used tires and used rims from Kijiji for 150 $ , which had 205/55r16 pattern . I realized later on that buying used tires was a bad idea . The mechanic (from where I installed my tires ) told me that the ride will be little ruff , but right now when I drive my car I get rumbling noise with feeling of little vibration. (just want to mention that even before I have little rumbling noise but now it became annoying)

My question is :-
1. Because I had the rumbling tire noise issue even before (which now has worsen), is it possible that tires and rims are ok but the issue is in wheel alignment ?
2. Where could be the issue exactly , in tires or in Rims ?
3. If the issue is in the tires , is it a good idea for me to buy new tires and use the old rims ?

Thanks a lot in advance
Sandy

usually i find the cheaper the tire the more contact noise it makes , as for rumbling it could just need tire rotation and an alignment .

What brand/model tires are they? Used tires are not necessarily garbage. That said, $150 is very very cheap for rims AND tires so there likely is something wrong with them.

If you had the noise before and it's louder now, that probably means that the problem is suspension/brakes related rather than wheel/tire and that the new wheels/tires just make it more obvious. If you want a conclusive answer, talk to a mechanic you trust. The forum can really only suggest what MIGHT be wrong. If you need recommendations for a good mechanic, check out the shop reviews section.

On your end (not including the used tire package) it could be 1. Wheel alignment. 2. Drive shafts could cause a vibration. 3. Worn shocks/struts can cause uneven tire wear (bumpy tires) which can cause noise and vibrations.
Tires and Rims you bought
1) tire quality or brand (there are some tires which can produces more noise than others. 2. Previous owner had bad shocks and struts causing uneven wear which can result in vibrations and noise. 3)Bent Rims 4)Balancing rims and tires

The major cause of your noise is most likely the tires being feathered. High spots and low spots along the tread.
