Hey Guys,
Got this nice sound from the engine today. There's a faint smell of clutch and this sound when running.

Thanks!

That sounds like a pulley on the serpentine belt, unless the noise goes away if you press the clutch in, which could mean hanger bearing.

Well, remove the belt and start er up! Noise disappears then you know its a pulley driven by the belt.

+1 to what Staax said, but I hate to say it, it sounds alot like the water pump may be done...hopefully just a pulley.

thanks guys :)
I'm alright around the car but I'm not sure how I would go about removing the belt.
Anyone have a tutorial I could use? Or if you're really feeling like a good samaritan you to come by my area, Etobicoke, to give me a hand. I'm not sure if I should be driving with this issue.
Cheers,
Mike

Brother had same sound - called me cause he thought his clutch was going. He relaxed when I said the sound was coming from the wrong side of the engine.
His was just a pulley bearing had gone. A new pully, a new belt and he was off to the races (quietly) again.

well removing the belt isnt hard , if you plan on getting a new one , cut it off , if you wana keep the same one then you can get this little belt insert it looks like a small piece of metal with groves and you put in on the belt and hold it by the pulley (bottom pulley is easier to get to in this case ) . Then with a socket wrech you crank the engine and to make the belt turn and once the insert is in place the belt should come right off . Repeat the process to put it back in. There are a lot of youtube videos on how to do this. Personally i dont like pinching my fingers every 5 seconds so i got my mechanic to do it.

That top pulley on the belt is called the tensioner, you put a socket on the hex head and loosen the belt (its spring loaded, so watch out) Then take the belt off. You won't be able to take the whole belt off until you undo the AC belt as well. Then you can check the pulleys for any play, or noise. It does sound like a pulley is bad, that would probably be your best bet.
