So the battery in my switchblade key seems to be out of juice and I tried doing a search on here for replacement options but I came up with nothing :bang

Does anyone know the type/size battery required for a switchblade key on a Mazda 3? I believe my key model is 07-09 but my actual vehicle is an 2006 (Not that I think it even matters). I would assume it is probably a watch battery of some sort, but any information on the size and how to go about replacing it myself would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Much appreciated. Any advice on how to change it? I found some stuff on Google for how to open up the fob but nothing related to changing the battery within it.

There is a tab to release the key from the fob where the key lays flat, push it and pull the two apart.

The take a small flat head and split the remote in half where the key came out of the fob.

All of the information posted is very helpful folks - thanks a lot!

I will be attempting the replacement later on today. I'll follow up on here to confirm that everything went smoothly.

I got mine from Canadian Tire. Came out to $6.77 after taxes.

Alright so I followed the instructions on the YouTube video posted here and ran into zero troubles replacing the old battery with the new one. Mazda used Panasonic batteries in the original (also the same car battery my car originally had in it). The only difference I noticed was that the key fob in the video, once opened up is slightly different from the one that I have. The two release sections inside of the key were shown to be located differently than the one I have (however they were in the same general area nonetheless).

After changing my fob battery I have noticed a significant power difference in the strength of keyless commands sent to the vehicle. I went from not being able to use my fob at all to having all the functions back in just a matter of minutes. I highly recommend the advice shared in this thread if you plan on swapping out the battery in your key fobs - Thanks again for the help everyone!

Instructions can also be found in the user manual (gasp). This is what I used to change the battery in my gen2's remote FOB.

Buy the batteries through Amazon.ca.....they are much cheaper than a watch or brick and mortar retail shop
