Need help identifying the source of a mystery noise.
With the wheel hard over right, there is a metallic grinding noise when punching the accelerator. Originally it was only with the wheel completely at lock to the right and starting from a dead stop, but its worsening, and now occurs with the wheel slightly turned right, or when accelerating hard on a straight. Sound definitely comes from the front right area. I replaced the wheelbearing already, and have taken the suspension apart at the front. There is no backing plate rubbing, no damage to the spline on the driveshaft, CV looks and feels good. It is not the click click of a cv going, its a low growl/grind under power.
Interestingly, in trying to diagnose it, I discovered that it will make the noise at a dead stop in drive, foot on the brake, wheel hard over, and give a bit of gas without letting off the brake. It does not make the noise when wheel is turned to the left doing the same.
Help?
