I called up Markham Mazda to inquire about transferring out my lease to a prospective new lessee. I was advised by the manager that the fee was $899 plus taxes, and I needed to go to the dealership in person, pay the fees upfront before they will email me a blank credit application form.

I thought that sounded extremely odd, so I called up the Canadian Dealer Lease Services and confirmed how everything should work. The agent that I spoke with confirmed the lease transfer fee is only $350 +taxes, and I only have to pay when I submit the completed credit application form. The agent further stated I should be able to receive a blank copy of the credit application form without paying any fees up front.

I ended up having CDLS to transfer my file over to another dealership, which only charges $495, to complete the transaction.

So be ware my fellow TM3 members...

A lot of dealers try to do this... My girlfriend went through this same headache with a Honda dealership. Told her the dealership requires a $500 lease transfer fee and Honda Finance also requires another $500.

$1000 for a lease transfer.

F'ing knobs. One payment to Honda and that's it... Dealer trying to make a quick buck.

To my understanding, you cannot pay direct to Honda finance to get out of the lease. You have to go to dealership to do that, they charge you admin fee on top of the lease transfer and each dealership charge different amount for that "admin fee". So you will end up paying more than another depending on the dealership.
Basically yes, the dealer is making profit off you just by doing to easy paperworks.

Going straight through Honda finance is an option. Thats what we did.
