I was wondering if the brand of oil filter for a 2010 Mazda 3i makes a big difference? I read that AC Delco ones are not that great.
Quote: "Uses Nitrile rubber (which is more likely to break down when exposed to high heat, turbo applications anyone?) for its combination Bypass Valve and Anti-Drainback Valve. Also the leaf spring keeping the Paper Media filter in place was very weak. The fins were spaced apart in some locations and compressed in others. Also the fiber board on both ends was easily pried off. Looks like poor quality control. "
I don't know enough about this to comment. I've had both oem mazda filters and other ones, depending on what shop I go to for the change.
Thanks for your opinions.

I've had OEM and Amsoil Ea Oil Filter in my car. It made a difference to me, similar to going from conventional oil to synthetic oil.

Thanks for sharing. I looked up amsoil for my model and it looks like it needs to be a Wix brand. My model is a GX 2010 sedan automatic.
I'm kind of annoyed now that the local shop used AC Delco and I didn't bother to look into the quality of the filter before. How much "damage" would it cause over a few months of using a cheap filter? Would it be better to replace it soon or just change it out for a better one on the next oil change?

I won't be too concerned unless you put a lot of stress on your powertrain very often.
A quick lookup your 2010 should use the same filter as I do.

Ah, okay. Nice. Did you buy it from the US website or get it locally somewhere?

So you guys notice an improvement when going form an OEM filter to Amsoil? What is it that you notice exactly?

Believe it or not. My buddy and I were using Amsoil and with OEM filter for a while at that time. We basically wanted to try a premium filter and see what happens. Our benchmark was DVP NB between York mills and 401. Before our cars (auto) would need to downshift in order to keep our desired speed. With the new filter, the car just held the gear and kept going.
From what I know, it's a support item. It's suppose to keep your oil fresh without too much pressure lost. But how well it does, is the key.

Have you noticed a difference in engine noise between the two filters?

I honestly believe that the manufacturer puts in enough research and engineering to make sure there filters are doing a great job.... If you think about it, the first 5 years and 100,000km the drivetrain is under warranty! They want to protect themselves from premature failure

I've used nothing but oem filters on this baby, 275,000km and still going strong.
