I am a member here as well as a few other mazda/mazdaspeed 3 forums. I am posting this with permission from the owners of the site. Here is a brief intro as to what is going on with me.

Back in 2009 Rob was diagnosed with Follicular Lymphoma which is a type of Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. After receiving chemotherapy and 2 years of maintenance treatments up through 2011 he was declared "in remission."

Then in 2014, after doing some CT scans, it was discovered that there were slow growths of cancer in his immune system (lymph nodes). The type of cancer he has is a slow growing one so there wasn’t much in the way of treatment that could have been done up until recently (this past summer), when they discovered a lump on the front top part of his head. He had surgery to remove the tumor and take biopsies to help his doctor determine the best course of treatment for his cancer. They found that the lymphoma was in his tumor. He had a bone marrow biopsy, and some fluid taken from his spine and had chemo injected in place of the fluid that was removed. This was called I.T. chemotherapy. Luckily he only had to have that performed once as it is apparently an extremely painful process.

Then, to stack another weight on top of everything, Rob’s wife recently lost her job and has yet to find anything in her field since. So at the moment neither of them have a source of income and their bills and debts that they have been carrying since 2011 (as a result of the chemo and treatments) have been crushing them financially (about $20K under). Rob has been able to receive some sickness benefits from the government until his long-term disability kicks in at the start of 2016, but his wife's previous employer incorrectly filed (basically screwed up) her record of employment so her unemployment benefits haven't even been looked at. They are currently trying to get in contact with her previous employer, but have had zero luck getting things rectified.

Rob also tells me that their 12 year old son is doing his best to cope with adult type situations and as a result of their situation has been forced to mature at a much faster rate on account of Rob’s 2009 cancer diagnosis. “This crushes me as my cancer is not curable. The cancer was found at stage 4 in 2009 and again when it resurfaced earlier this year. It is only treatable.”

Rob just visited the hospital today and he starts his first round of chemotherapy tomorrow, Tuesday, November 10. This will be for approximately a total length of 2.5 years including maintenance treatments after the chemotherapy. The hospital they have to visit is 150km (about 94mi) round trip and every time they visit it is 20 dollars to park. Rob will have to visit the hospital Monday-Thursday for treatments, so it’s pretty much a very strenuous, full-time dedicated event.

FYI the mod team has decided to allow suparobg to post this thread. Not something we typically allow but we are making an exception.
