For all the audio guru's, I've got 2 component speakers for the front rated at 80w RMS and 2 for the rear rated for 75w RMS. If I go with something like the JL Audio XD400/4 which is rated at 75w RMS x 4 @ 4 ohms (100 watts RMS x 4 @ 2 ohms) would it be sufficient? Or should I be aiming for something a bit over 80w RMS x 4? From what I gather it seems to be better to overpower it by a bit rather than underpower but it seems difficult to find an amp with a but more juice thats not double the price.

Already have a sub and a mono amp powering that so I just need power to the 4 speakers. Any opinions appreciated.

5W here or there isn't going to make any discernable difference. Buy the amp that fits your budget and feature set and gets closest to your desired specs. 75W would be fine all around.

Also I wouldn't be surprised if a JL makes more power. The birth sheet of my Alpine rated it at higher than they advertise.

They do but I'm told the next step up would be the JL 600/4 and that's more than double the price haha

Go somewhere where they have alot of amps in stock and ask to open all the boxes to check the birth sheets of the amp you want. I'll bet you'll find some amps pushing alot more then spec'd. That's what I did when I purchased my RF amps and my 4 channel rated at 50Wrms x4 actually tested at 90Wrms x4.

Yes, stores love it when you open all their boxes.
Be sure to thank them for their time and say "I'll let you know" and then walk out without purchasing anything.

Best Buy had no issue whatsoever with me opening the boxes, as they weren't sealed, and I also closed and stacked them back where they originally were. I purchased two amps that day btw.

*Only an asshat would ask to do this and walk out with no purchase or do so with no intention of purchasing.

I wired my speakers up to a JL slash 300/2. So run 60-70 RMS each and no problems. Had it there now 3 years.
