The other day I noticed as I was driving the airbag light will blink on and off, and the passenger airbag light remains lit even with an adult sitting in it. I checked the connections under the passenger seat and also under the cup holder. Everything seems connected. I haven't checked the fuse yet or battery terminals (haven't had time yet)
The car has 60, 000 on it. I see on the Mazda Canada website that the warranty is
Safety Restraint: 60 months/100,000 km
So technically it should be covered. But I called the dealership and they wouldn't give me a straight answer and they want a diagnostic fee if it turns out it's not a restraint system problem. I don't really understand what else could be causing the light to light up if it isn't part of the system? They want $180 to look at it. I also called mazda headquarters and they weren't much help either, just told me to take it to the dealer.
Anyway, my soon to be father in law owns a shop and he told me to bring it in to read the code. Should I just get the code read first? Then if it's something that's part of the restraint system to bring it to the dealer then? Dealer said the fee is covered if it's covered under warranty.
