Hey guys! I just wanted to get your opinion, I'm very peerticular on my maintance with my car (New Brakes, OilChanges, Camber, Shocks etc) so basically what happened is I took my car in for an Oil change at Mazda, After the oil change was done, I take the car on the highway to get home, 10 minutes later the engine starts making a rattling noise, I take it home and the next day I call mazda and ask what gives? They immediatly come to my house with oil and they check the dipstick and say the oil is filled they thought it didnt have any cause there was a new kid in training doing my oil change (Very re-assuring...) they say they want to take a look at the engine, I wait an hour and turns out I need a new engine now.

The car has 248k clicks, which is high km however like I said I took very good car of it.

Do you guys think they had anything to do with it? :bang

Take car for an oil change, and immediately after the engine is making a bad noise and you need a new engine?
If it was immediately after, I would take it to a 3rd party to diagnose. The dealership will try and cover their asses (i.e. lie about the diagnosis) if it was their fault to avoid having to buy you a new engine!!!

...and if it was the dealer that did indeed screw up and they won't give you a new/lower km engine when you ask, then sue them.

LOL IF THEY WONT GIVE YOU A NEW / LOWER KM ENGINE. ooo man that's funny. bro. hate to tell you. but lets say the dealer screws up and does own it. what gives anyone the right to say you now have to give me a brand new or a lower km engine.. I mean.. NO they don't. they need to repair or replace the said part and if they had another engine if that's what it needed and could get it with 248,000km then hey guess what. they can put that in.

to the OP ziom9 , if you trust this dealer and do your work there. go in like a normal person and talk to them. I will not disagree the advisors could give you a hard time but most are not idiots and understanding, if you have issues. talk to the service manager and if you need to talk to the owner and or involve the general manager. if all they did was drain the oil change the filter and refill it. then.. I mean it might just be bad timing and maybe your engine shit the bed. not much you can do really if the filter is tight. oil is full and there are no leaks. and lets all be honest before jumping the gun here. these engines are decent but they are not perfect and can go without warning. 248,000km is not a low km engine anymore so I mean.. every day it ran was a good day. my old focus gave me issues at 201. id be happy if my 3 gets me to 250k.

Sorry I mistyped, I didn't mean new as in 0 km, i meant new as in replacement (which is why I said lower KM, because obviously they wouldn't have an engine with the exact same number of km on it lol). Misunderstanding aside, you're saying the same thing as me

There are plenty of 2.3 engines out there with 250 or higher mileage still working fine, quite a few on the board here...280k here and runs fine. So lets not assume these engines can just give out with no warning...The OP says it ran fine before, and right after bit the dust, chances are slim that that is a coincidence. I'll bet the apprentice or whatever he was forgot to put the oil in and started it up, then when the engine started clacking and shit he shut it down and thru the oil in and said nothing...Believe it or not I've witnessed this happen before. Only problem here for the OP is he cannot prove anything and he's stuck replacing the engine at his own cost. He could try to get the Dealer to come to a compromise somewhat. Like split the bill or free labour, ...something. I wish the OP luck.

Yes I agree there are lots of higher km 2.3s I didn't say that not to be the case. in the land of dealerships. I have seen some very weird coincidences. believe me. but again that's assuming they did everything correct and everything is ok. but we know mazdas are not shy to chain noise either. hard to grasp at straws. but need to give the benefit of the doubt and have them look at it I suppose and if they blow smoke then go see someone else. and I would say to do it fast if it is causing damage and then you end up costing yourself more money in the long run.

but flag if the apprenti change the oil and filter and then put new oil in and it starter making noise.. is it his fault? or did the engine take a shit? I mean.. if the job was done correct its not the techs fault right?

like I said talk to the advisor. if not go up to the manager. and or Gm, and if not go to the owner. if they are a good business they will talk to you and want to help you. if you start getting pushed off then you know what you need to do and hey at worst case call mazda Canada and tell them whats up.
