View Full Version : Rear Control Arm Bushing - How to tell you need replacements?

Last year we had an aging set of coilovers replaced with another. It was then apparent that something was wrong with the handling of the vehicle when taking turns at moderate paces. Steering angle would suddenly veer to the direction of the turn. The great folks here diagnosed the issue as worn front lower control arm bushings. Replaced with new lower control assemblies and the fix was spot on :).

However, how does one know that the rears need replacements? Is there a trait in handling that would point to it? Car currently has close to 200K kilometers and feel that the suspension is "sloppy". I had an alignment done early last year and it no longer feels taut.

You may hear clunking when going over bumps and the back may feel sloppy on turns/ramps. But best way is to have them inspected, if the bushings are toast its pretty obvious and just the bushings will need to be replaced. Those were the symptoms I had, but I also had a broken sway bar bracket to boot.
