Hey guys,
Some help picking a set of wheels? Check out the gif below, vote on a wheel style you like.

let me know if the image link works. Should be a gif showing 4 different wheel styles.

I would go with the 1st wheels based on style but would want to know the specs on all of them to know what the stance would be like

They're all either 17x7 or 17x7.5, offsets between 40-45 (hopefully sitting flush-ish with the fenders). I plan on lowering an inch or two, much later though.

Man those are small wheels. At least go 17x8 if not 18x8
17x7 +40 is not sitting anywhere close to the fenders

You think so? Stock is 16x6.5 ET50, I've got about 20mm from the tire to the edge of the fender, horizontally. All the calculators I've used on wheel fitment sites say 7-7.5 is good enough with the offset. I've never bought aftermarket wheels before, so this is all new to me, and I want to avoid rubbing inside the fender.

I've been reading the threads here, people seem to agree 17" is a good balance of looks and ride comfort, though I agree 18s look nicer. I'm also trying to stay under $1200 before tax all in with wheels and tires.
(If anyone's got something similar for sale used, I'm down for that too.)

I'm thinking of selling my 18" GT OEM rims on tires, professionally powder coated dark bronze with sparkle by Quy's Coating.

Voted for the Hayakus but have to agree with Hyperion, go with either the 17 or 18. :)

I was also looking at hayakus but they looks very small if 17". I like the orbits on your car. They look nice.

Agree with Hyperion

I have 17x6.5 for winters which do not even come close to the fenders lol. 17x8 or 18x8 would better achieve that if that's what you want.

^ *shrugs* anyway I'm buying a set of used Volk CE28s from a TM3 member. Still 17x7.5, matte black.
I'm thinking either 225/50 or 245/45 for that meaty tire look. Thoughts?

245 and 7.5 don't go together. You may want a meaty tire look, but you need to have the wheels for it too. 225's should give you about as wide of a tire on that rim as you can get.

Sounds good. This is why I joined the site, draw on the experience you all have :)
Now anybody have a recommendation on a tire? I've been thinking about the BFG G-force Comp-2 A/S, since it seems to be a good balance of performance/tire wear, but I'm looking at 1010tire and the Ohtsu FP7000s are tempting cause they're so cheap...

Don't buy super cheap tires.

Don't buy super cheap tires.
Any reason why? I'm just curious because honestly I haven't bought tires before. I hear stories about quality issues, but I don't know how much of that still exists.

I'm not doing anything more than dailying this car, so I just need a quiet, durable tire that will perform well in dry and wet conditions

Reason is tires are the only thing that contact with the ground. It affects everything from acceleration/braking, cornering, comfort, noise, etc.

Although everyone has different judgement of noise, vibration, and harshness.

So TL;DR - don't cheap out on the only thing keeping you rolling?
Any recommendations? Or are the BFGs that I'm looking at a good way to go?

I only drive my car 12k a year, and when there's bad weather I almost always have the option to just stay home. However, buying the cheapest tires makes me nervous in terms of wet (or snowy/icy) performance, and noisiness. I also don't buy top of the line tires either. My winters are Barum Polaris (made by Continental) and summers are Nexen CP672 and have been very happy.

What is the tire profile on those? 45 or 40? Would those fit in the 2nd gen 3s?

Those are real nice! I like the white paint on the tire. More stickers and you'll have yourself a racecar in no time!

225/45s in the picture, but the previous owner removed the tires. I just bought the wheels. He had them on a 1st gen, so they'll probably fit a 2nd gen

At first that's what I was wondering too as I wouldn't have missed out on ce28's.

But these are fake. It's missing a couple of embossments along the edge such as "made in japan", "forged" and most importantly "rays eng".

Ah I wondered about that. No matter, as long as they're solid wheels that won't break on me I'm fine with them
