2007 mazda 3 gs

The power steering light came on and it made the steering wheel very difficult to turn. About a few minutes later it finally worked.

This morning same thing happened again. I could not turn wheel properly. I left car running and then a few minutes later i heard a noise and it worked again.

I read about the recall from years ago, does it apply still? If not how much would it cost to fix?

Just an update. Went to dealership. The electronic steering pump needs replacement. Given the mileage on car, 240k km. The service consultant recommended to call it a day for the car. The quote was 1900 for parts labour. Probably never buying a Mazda again.

be aware if you go outside of the dealer you need to download the program into the new pump. pain in the ass. not sure why you wouldnt buy a mazda. your cars 9 years old. your at the time to either spend money and keep it going or dump it. 10 years is average life now a days. but wait for the next car. they are only getting more advanced with more computers and expensive stuff to fail

10 years is average life based on what?
I see 15 year old civics still on the street.

I emailed mazda canada. They basically said electronics are electronics, it served me well for 10 years.

Good to know the quality of parts mazda is using. Given the fact that there were issues with power steering on other mazda3s, they knew it was defective.
For whatever reason my vin did not fall within the recalls for 07 mazda 3s.
Never buying these poorly made cars again.

I don't think you have the same issue that was being addressed by warranty - I faintly remember reading and certainly remember experiencing it myself (as I had mine done under warranty), that it occurred in hot weather like July/August. I didn't have issue in temperatures like we have right now.

It's a ten year old car. Things will break after 230k. But yeah, how about them crappy Mazdas eh?

if you buy a new one online or from a wrecker, its not hard to swap yourself. If you take your bumper off it's right there. i found them online for about $200. Can get a cheaper one at the junk yard

but you're right, one thing goes wrong so never buy a car from them again

Could be worse, some power steering units are part of the whole column. Have fun changing that.
