Wow... Nice.
Is your car EVER dirty??????
How long is that mount? does it stick out past the side view mirror? I\'d be scared to hit
it against something! Maybe in the summer you might end up with a pic of the back of
a cyclist\'s head just before impact! haha :p

Oh, and how did you take the one from behind the car? set the timer and run as fast as
you could back into the car and slam on the pedal? haha Either way, I like that one a lot! :D

You should mount a video camera for one of our cruises!!
(Is it illegal to drive on the street with one of those on?)

I try to keep it clean most of the time. ;)

The mount is about 40 cm(it\'s adjustable)...so it does stick out past the mirrors...it was late at night and on a pretty quiet stretch of road outside where I lived...I was probably more scared of my camera falling off than the it hitting anything! I might purchase an extension after winter so I can get some better shots - the further away the camera is from the car, the better.

For all the pics I had to use the timer...it\'s 10 seconds on my camera so it wasn\'t too hard and there wasn\'t a need to floor it lol...I was going maybe 20-30km/h in the pics! :p A remote would really help!

I don\'t have a video camera but I don\'t see how it can be illegal so long as it doens\'t interfere with traffic. I do get people staring at it though. :D

I work in the Video Production business and i am working on mounting cameras in my car. I\'m going for the stock look so the cameras won\'t be visable.

Mounting a camera on the outside and driving down the street is not advisable without proper permits. Plus I think you might need a bigger mount for video cameras. I know where to rent them but they ain\'t cheap.

Hopefully by spring i will have the pieces for a covert camera system in my car

The stickypod was originally designed for video cameras, infact.
Also, it can be mouted inside the car...though a hidden camera system in the car would be very cool. ;)

Take a look at this...I doubt it\'s going to fall off at any rate:

All this talk about the stickypod and putting cameras on cars reminds me of a pretty cool ad a few years back... you see a fast car with what looks like jet propulsion (or a rocket?) zipping along the salt flats and the camera is dollying (sp?) along beside it keeping it in the center of the frame.. then it ends and you see the person unhook the camera and as they\'re walking away you see the camera was hooked up to the side of a BMW.. perhaps not the most amazing commercial, but a smart one none the less :p

TeamBedlam: how do you plan on hiding a camera in the car? Is it going to be a rear-view or a forward view? If a forward view it\'ll probably have to be inside the windshield to keep the lens from getting filthy.

Autoexe: First off, BEAUTIFUL pics. They really turned out nicely... so I have a few questions for you:

1. What kind of a digital camera do you use?

2. Are you using the automatic mode or manual mode when taking these night photographs, with the camera mounted to the car? If manual mode, what are the camera parameters (ISO, Shutter Speed, apature, etc)?

3. Where did you take these pictures? I\'m assuming that it was taken sometime late in the night, where there are plenty of various colour sources that would project onto your Titanium Gray car.

Again, very professional. I\'m hoping that I can get something close with my Canon S230, but it\'s very limited in it\'s manual mode (can\'t get the shutter speed faster than 1-second).

Cheers,

PiCASSO

1.) Sony DSC-P100 - a lot of people think I use a DSLR until I tell them :D I do want a Canon 300D though

2.) Manual mode. I\'m not sure of the ISO (I don\'t even know if I can adjust it on my rather limited manual mode), but the shutter time was about 3-5 seconds depending on the pics. Aperature was f2.8.

3.) I took these on the street outside where I lived...it was late and there weren\'t many cars. The colours have been adjusted and enhanced in PS, especially the red pic.

Good luck and post the pics when you take them!

I\'m going to start with a center mount dash cam. It\'s going to be movable so if i want to clip it to a window i can. I want to put both forward and rear facing cameras at bumper level. I\'m working on a weather proof case with a spinning lens to prevent water buildup.

The long range goal is to have multiple cameras and a switch box to select which one i record to my laptop.

Once teambedlam has the camera mounts ready, whoever wants to attach them to their car and go jump some hills for us it\'d be grand! :D

Although I\'m glad that I have a comparable camera that can almost recreate the pictures that you\'ve taken (specs from www.dpreview.com):

Sony DSC-P100:
Aperture range F2.8 - F5.2
Min shutter 30 sec
Max shutter 1/1000 sec

Canon PowerShot S230:
Aperture range F2.8 - F4.0
Min shutter 15 sec
Max shutter 1/1500 sec

I\'m also surprised that a shutter speed of 3-5 seconds didn\'t provide streaks of lights, but then again, you didn\'t drive across a bumpy road. I don\'t have the ability to play with the apature, but I\'ll attempt to recreate similar pictures one day. Additionally, I\'m assuming that you were far enough from your subject (i.e. your Mazda3) that you didn\'t need to place your camera in \"macro\" mode?

As for the Canon EOS 300D / Digital Rebel, that\'s also on my shopping list! There\'s a great review on the camera from Digital Photography Review:

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos300d/

I\'ve been checking out the prices in USA for the camera via www.pricegrabber.com and found that they are roughly in the $800 USD range ($960 CDN). Still a little pricey for me, especially now that I have lease payments on a new M3. All in good time... ;)

Cheers,

PiCASSO

I currently have a Minolta Dimage 7i but have been tempted to upgrade to their new Maxxum 7D, too bad it\'s over $2000 just for the body. :(

i\'m not being mean, nor i\'m whoring myself out for posts like frosty..

if someone\'s is TOO LAZY to read WITHIN THE SAME THREAD that he posted in then they deserve to be told \'scroll up and read the answer\' .. come on, is THAT so much to ask? There\'s no need for multiple resposes to the same question, so if we can train newbies from the get go will get less repeats ;) Seems like it\'s just soooooo easy to ask and get things handed to ya on a silver platter

bubba, black hadn\'t even replied in the thread, you were replying to Majic.

You seem to mention your \"thing\" with Majic all the time around here. Why not post what you want, and let him do the same? If he is outta line, or you are, that is the reason we have mods. Whats in the past is in the past, just let it be. Not everyone like reading through useless posts on the matter;)
