View Full Version : Hit a pothole

It's been a crappy year and tonight I wasn't careful and hit a pothole and blew out the front drivers side tire. I think one can't repair sidewalk blow outs. So I guess I need a new tire from somewhere. And at some point repair the rim. Does it need to be the same one as the other 3 factory oem tires?

It doesn't *need* to be, but it's preferred.
I normally try to match up the treat pattern as close as possible.
Depending on tread depth, it's advisable to replace in pairs (if say, one tire is at 6/32, and new they're 10/32).

I didn't even think to check tread depth. I'll drop by a tire shop after work and see what can be done. Hopefully the rim isn't bent or something.
Thanks.

You definitely can't fix that tire. And like mentioned above you usually replace tires per axle so that thread depth is the same and therefore overall wheel diameter is the same. Different wheel size would probably be okay in the the back (non-drive axle).

I got some quotes:
MoT parts guy couldn't figure out what the OEM tire but eventually he found dunlop sp sport in whatever he was looking at and said 238 before taxes, eco fee and install.
A local tire shop
215/45R18
Dunlop SP Sport 5000 89W - $250 each
*** TAXES INCLUDED & ECO FEES INCLUDED ***
INSTALLED & BALANCED (PRICES FOR ONE)
CASH / DEBIT / VISA / MASTERCARD ACCEPTED (NO HIDDEN FEES).
Ouch, guess I'll drop by the tire shop and see what other options there are or what they recommend.

Just replace 2 tires and you'll be fine. Go see Allen at SimplyTire.
